losing it at the fact that most evangelical Christian assholes are shocked when the Catholic Pope has different views
I knew it-- just KNEW IT-- the moment we learned the new Pope was American, I knew the MAGAt moron brigade would immediately be expecting the guy to be some gob-slobbering jackass racist like them, expecting him to start licking drumpf's toes.
The fact the Pope isn't going to be ordered around by King Damp Pants is going to be a talking point for Faux "news" Entertainment for a while lol
The pope doesn't like evil? Huh, imagine that.
I love how they lost their shit about an American speaking Italian, in Italy, to a shit load of Italians.
The American nationalism has truly rotted their brains.
This article basically just gives a platform to right wing nutjons and their conspiracy theories
Why isn't there a single quote from Pope Leo XIV?
“In case you're wondering why they picked an American to be a Pope for the first time in history,” MAGA influencer Vince...
Lol, the pope that literally just died was from Argentina, you dumbass
I don’t understand the point you’re making. The new pope is the first American pope.
No, he's not. The last Pope was American too
He wasn’t American in the sense that it was used. Stop being so willfully obtuse. “American” is the primary demonym for people from the United States in addition to meaning people from the Americas.
When people shout “Death to America”, they aren’t talking about Argentinians and we all know it.
Because for you "American" = USA and for the person you replied to "American" = "American continent", which, of course, makes sense for any non-murican.
But “American” is the primary demonym for a person from the United States. I means both in varying contexts, and you’re being disingenuous, I assume, if claiming you didn’t know that was the intended use here.
US Americans are Americans. Argentinians are also Americans
Are we talking about the one that died or his new replacement?
Edit: its about the new Pope (Pope Leo) not the old pope (pope Francis). Apparently the dead progressive pope was replaced with another progressive pope. Cool
Well, Francis had as many good takes as bad takes. Some people described him as "strategically trying to piss off as many people as possible."
Example?
He wanted Ukraine to surrender and back in 2015 and 2016 made a few statements about how he didn't think children should be taught gender ideologies or procedures and that there were strong immutable differences between men and women.
"I ask myself, if the so-called gender theory is not, at the same time, an expression of frustration and resignation, which seeks to cancel out sexual difference because it no longer knows how to confront it. Yes, we risk taking a step backwards. The removal of difference in fact creates a problem, not a solution."
~Da Pope
I strongly disagree with him.
Old pope appointed the bishops who appointed new pope so liberal was pretty much guaranteed. The American thing was a surprise.
The last one was American too tho
Yes, but not US of American.
Wasn't he Argentinian?
Yes.
So then he was SOUTH American.
Yes.
And the new one is NORTH American.
People using "American" to refer to anyone from the western continent (from a euro centric perspective) is conventional in some parts or the world. It's not the convention in Canada, we bristle at the thought of being labeled Americans.
