I love the hate the DNC gets now. I'm also confused how the DNC's mandate isnt to be entirely apolticial.

If it is not Bernie, AOC I ain't going to vote. Also ain't voting for anyone funded by AIPAC.
Gavin Newsom may sound smart, but he's got his hands in your pockets stealing your money to feed the rich, kinda like the current emperor in chief.
Y'all know there's still house and some Senate elections coming up next year right?
You know what would show America and the Democrats (and Republicans for that matter) that Americans are finally serious about a 3rd party candidate? Supporting and electing 3rd party candidates in the House and Senate.
Ok, I try to be polite, and I generally agree you don't win arguments by saying shitty things, but whoever downvoted this is either a bad actor or has rocks for brains. I'm sorry to be so crass, but it needed to be said.
If only there were elections being held between 2025 and 2028 with less at stake than a presidential election. That way Americans on the left and right could come together and prove to the establishment parties that they would actually show up to vote for a 3rd party candidate for a presidential election.
It would be such a shame if angry Americans used this information to get involved in local politics and promoted ethical candidates who weren't purchased by a corporation ASAP
What would a 3rd party look like? Only person that comes to mind is jill stein whos a russian mouthpiece
This is why the primary will be so important, and why Biden basically handed the win to Trump by pushing Harris instead of having a primary.
Maybe, but the only way I can believe that is if we believe Biden was a far better candidate that Harris. Biden mopped the floor in the Democrats primaries everywhere they were held. Florida and Delaware were the only states that didn't hold them if I remember, and Biden had something like 87% of the votes for Democrats. We say they meaningless, but the last time the Democrats were in the same position was 2012 voting in an incumbent. Obama got 2/3rds the votes that Biden did. 8 million, vs the 12 million votes for Biden.
The delegates could have flipped when Biden left but didn't. Its a much higher likelyhood that there the issue was more people were not willing to vote for her for being a woman or being black. If people think that 1-2% of the voters aren't racist or sexist in Georgia, Michigan etc they are off their rocker. A 1-2% moved from Democrat to Republican vote was enough to lose states like that.
So if Biden had not run at all, and sent it to Primaries, would that percentage have been enough to get her not to win the primary? I kind of doubt it.
It shouldn't have mattered who the candidate was. When the opponent is an authoritarian bigot intentionally harming minorities you do whatever it takes in the moment to triage the situation and prevent generational destruction. Then you march/riot...etc and demand change from whoever the Dem president is. I blame the absent voters for ignoring the bleeding patient from the drunk driver accident and instead standing to the side demanding no more drunk drivers.
Our entire system being like a hostage situation doesn't help, plurality voting is shit to begin with. I don't blame people.
DNC will throw the election before putting a progressive into the race
Sadly, you are correct. Neither Kamala nor Gavin can win. But I'd prefer Kamala to Gavin, which is how bad Gavin is.
I prefer Gavin to Trump.
But not, you know, a lot.
That's how much I hate Gavin.
The great thing about the orange turd- gurgler, is that he's so bad, even the bad democrats might be popular enough to elect in enough numbers to have the majority to get things done - if our republic survives.
My thinking is that we need the dems that we can get into office, then work on replacing them with better ones, as we go. The moderates definitely need to go away... enough with the "meeting in the center," when the center is always moving to the right.
The voters need to have realistic expectations as well - we've been in decline since the '70s - it won't be fixed in 4 or 8 years, but nothing is going to be fixed at all, so long as corporations and billionaires are in charge.
Trump is still popular. Dems are in an ouroboros of cope right now with no way out. They've basically been in charge for two decades and done nothing. If they want to get elected it will have to be on a populist platform without all of woke BS. (e.g. an anti-Trump version of Trump) Ironically Trump's campaign borrowed a ton of messaging from Bernie Sanders. No surprise that he won considering Democrats pushed Bernie and his grievances out of the way a decade ago in favor of perhaps the most well-connected, corporatist technocrat to ever run for President.
We all like AOC here on Lemmy, but are enough of the old ass "liberals" going to join us so she can actually get elected? Seems highly unlikely to be honest.
I'd love to see it happen though. That's what primaries are for. The Dems should try one of those. It's been a while.
I hope nobody tries showing the establishment parties that Americans would actually show up to vote for a 3rd party candidate as president, by electing as many 3rd party candidates as they could in elections with less at stake occuring throughout the country between now and 2028. Boy, what a waste of time that would be.
Bernie and AOC seem to be hoovering up the MSNBC liberal boomer demographic at this point because that demo has finally snapped and the dems leadership is completely absent.
That, however, probably won't translate into a progressive/socialist candidate winning the next presidential primary. They might have a stronger showing but dem leadership will move to protect their donors and stifle that candidate.
Pelosi showed us already the Democratic party won't let aoc sniff a primary
I'm 45. Am I old enough to be an old ass liberal? I love AOC and I hope she succeeds.
I'm talking 70's, 80's, and up. I'm also in my 40s.
Aww shit 40s gang rise up!
