Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas has mourned the passing of Pope Francis, voicing thanks for his condemnation of the suffering in the Gaza Strip, which has been devastated by the war since Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023.

"On numerous occasions, he expressed his opposition to aggression and wars around the world, and he was among the prominent religious voices that condemned the war crimes and acts of genocide being committed against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip," Hamas said in a statement.

Israel: "HAMAS has infiltrated the Vatican and is holding hostages in the Papal apartments."

What is so oniony about this?

which has been devastated by the war since Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023.

Yep and not a single day before

Edit: due to some recent information on how my comment might be taken by people who think genocide is justifiable, it's sarcasm pointing out how this conflict didn't begin on 7 October 2023 and how Palestine has been devastated by war since, at the very least, I was a kid.

Hamas got a lot of power because Palestinians wanted to be protected from Israel.

I'm not saying terrorist attacks are good, but almost every terrorist attack in history has been a reaction to oppression.

Yeah, let's completely ignore the ridiculously illegal and perpetual reign of terror as Israel claws away the civilians of Gaza by any means they please, such as the ever-so-friendly White Phosphorus rain they gifted the Palestinians in 2009 as but a single example out of the countless others.

If this is sarcastic, you are deeply on the wrong side of Poe's law here. I really hope this is sarcasm.

Considering I'm not down voted to hell I think you're the one on the wrong side of Poe's law. I was very obviously pointing out that this conflict did not begin on Oct 7th.

I wish that only good takes and true statements would get upvoted. Perhaps I am still traumatized from my Reddit days. I am heartened to hear that you were being sarcastic. I don't go by upvotes when assessing intent. All that Poe's law says is that if you say something sarcastically, someone WILL believe you are being genuine. All I ask is for a simple /s for us neurodivergent folks. Not everyone is capable of reading the mind of a person based on seven words which directly and clearly agree with a piece of propaganda (propaganda that the majority of my home country has swallowed, bait, line, sinker and pole). It is all-too-believable to think that someone would support it and be upvoted by people who believe they are being sarcastic, especially when the only extant reply was someone ostensibly agreeing with the content of your message, saying "Exactly, thank you".

Good points thanks. And the other reply is from an AI bot.

Jesus, seriously? Think I can get it to write me a poem about onions? I caught one just a couple days ago. How do you even know?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Glanced at the comment history to see what kind of person makes a comment like that and quickly realized it was no person at all. All their comments just sound so generic and don't do anything to push the conversation forward.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 12 hours ago

Ah, I got one who just repeated that same thing three times, then wrote me a bad poem when requested. It was... Enlightening

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago

Exactly. Thank you.

I thought the headline sounded incredibly oniony.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hmm, what do you see in it?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

The pope died and everyone and their mom is having their say on it.

Hamas is not one of the organizations you would expect to be quoted on their opinion.
