Fascist title much?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 hours ago

That title is a mind fuck

$1000 a day must be some sort of line they cannot cross without the courts or congress involved--and they're actually staying under it?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 16 hours ago

I'm shocked it wasn't $14.88, the My Pillow Rate.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 17 hours ago

Same for the eandom citizens they are also telling to leave?

So that's how they're paying to detain people in El Salvador? The US is paying El Salvador $6 million per year to illegally detain immigrants indefinitely

[–] [email protected] 25 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

How do they expect to collect?

You clearly don’t know me.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 15 hours ago

Indentured servitude.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

They will seize their house, their car, their bank accounts. Any property they can. Law enforcement in this country has a long history of being literal bandits, this is simply justification.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 16 hours ago

Huh, that is literally what Germany did. Gross. I did not enjoy saying that.

Most "wealth" is digital. And repossessing physical goods is a huge industry.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I would hazard a guess that undocumented people rely much more heavily on cash (though that is just a guess, do correct me if I'm wrong). And they'll take the property whether there's a "fine" levied or not, so I'm just not seeing the point here.

Oh, wait. It's not a logical point, it's a "the base will eat this up" point.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 17 hours ago

If people are sent over to "pay off their fine to the US"....

[–] [email protected] 62 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Yes they'll pay it as soon as they're deported

🤦

[–] [email protected] 55 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I bet it's preparation for putting people in camps domestically to "work off their debt".

The US wants more slaves.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 12 hours ago

$0.25 per day, pre-tax. No deductions.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah it's this. Indentured servitude.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago

Indentured servitude is what they use the h1b visas for

[–] [email protected] 22 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, wtf?

Unless it'll be used against any family members still here?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 16 hours ago

Sounds like they're probably going to go nuts with imprisoning debtors, probably both citizens and immigrants, as well as the mentally ill, and use them as forced labor.

Debt is (basically almost always) not transferrable 😊.

Like unless your parents are in debt and have an estate and leave you that estate can you really be in a situation where someone's debt becomes your problem.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Cosigning loans and the person defaulting or marriage to someone who is in debt

[–] [email protected] 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

If you cosign a loan, you're literally taking on the responsibility of that debt every bit as much as the person actually getting the money. Not really the same thing. Also if you marry someone who already has debt before you guys married, in most states that debt does not become your responsibility after marriage.

Correct. My ex had student loan debt before we got married, and she tried to get me to "help" her with it during our divorce. I'm glad I didn't.

MAGA Reich... although they'd probably view that as a badge of honor.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 18 hours ago

Might be why they want to deport people so much. Their wealth isn't going to seize itself.
