Get a Steam Deck or open box Rog Ally instead. Nintendo thinks you're a peasant. Nintendo needs to be reminded of the Wii U era.

You have to have balls to charge money for a tech demo

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Yeah, some are speculating it's only $5-10 which honestly is even more of a reason it should be free.

As someone who is lucky enough to probably afford $699 CAD it's just too much. I don't expect this to sell well at all. I've bought all Nintendo consoles on release and this is just crazy expensive

In Australia, its cheaper to get the Steamdeck than the Switch 2. Sorry fromsoft and The Duskbloods, I dont think the game is worth the $699 AUD.

I'm in Australia too. Did you notice that they increased the price of the slightly-improved Switch 2 Pro Controller to $120 AUD compared to the Switch 1 Pro Controllers $99. What a load of crap. How much is the dock gonna be separate? $200? Plus, if you wanna buy Breath of the Wild with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition pack included, it's going to cost you ~~$120~~ $110... a game from 2017 that only had a value for the resolution tweaked and an increased framerate cap...

One thing I did notice is that if you own the zelda games on switch 1, and have the online sub +exp, you get the upgrade for free. I'm still not sure that justifies it of course but it's something. Still not sure I can spend that much on a console.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

(Correction: BOTW + Switch 2 Edition pack is $110, not $120)

If you only get the upgrade for the duration that you have the subscription, then that definitely doesn't make the one-time-purchase cost justified in my opinion. If you consider that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is (still) $90 on it's own, the upgrade being included for $110 means that the upgrade alone will be at least $20. While I was watching the direct, I thought it was stupid you had to pay for it at all, but honestly expected it to only be $5 at the most. After all, when you buy a Switch 2, you're paying for the power the console has in that purchase. You shouldn't be forced to then unlock that power through a further DLC; it's not like they remastered the game or something. This is like Tesla making you pay extra for features that are already built into their cars.

However, I do think that the Switch 2 Edition packs like the one in Kirby and the Forgotten Land are justified to cost money, because they actually include a new campaign like a normal DLC should. Even with Kirby though, the actual graphical enhancements should be free. The new campaign should be the only paid part.

That is way too expensive. I'm not paying $450 for a switch, or $80 for Nintendo games. Trump can also shove those tariffs up his fucking ass, I'll buy my expensive shit in a foreign country before I bend the knee to his idiocy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

450

glad i dint buy one when SWSH came out, such a terrible game, for 400$ console on top of that+ more for dlc. it was a pure money grab. and every game that came out for pokemon was sht.

If nintendo's price points are anything similar to Lenovo's from last week, ~50$ US of that is from darth cheeto and his tarrifs.

Not trying to be political, lemmy sorta has that covered already, just pointing that out.

(Source: Linus's crew pointed it out earlier in the week Link)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

If that were the case, only the US should have the higher price. But the whole world does.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Honestly considering his just-announced 24% tarrifs on Japan right after this price came out, I would not be surprised if we get more of a price jump before release.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (3 children)

That’s a wild price point. You can get Series x for the same money, series s for practically half

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

How? Xbox launched at 500(if you account for inflation it's closer to 6) the PS5 also launched at the same price. Which again if you count for inflation is closer to 6. So this is coming in under those prices by quite a bit. This is a launch console price point.

Now if you were complaining about the cost of the game then yeah that would make sense because I don't think Mario Kart has the same production cost as say Forza or Grand Tourismo.

The consoles price point is actually in line with how much the original switch cost(if you take into account inflation).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Get into PS5 for cheaper, too. I can only assume the built for $350 and priced for tariffs, but if that were true you'd expect to see lower relative prices elsewhere. Hell, you can get into a real handheld PC gaming there if you're patient.

I have zero interest in that product at that price. None.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nintendo consoles for me are just for playing Nintendo games. So it's all about the exclusives. For 3rd party I have so many other places to play.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

And this is why they can keep the prices high for an inferior product

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So...what's up with the Japanese language & multi language systems they get over there?

Is putting in multiple languages really that much more expensive? Or put another way, why do they get a 330$ version for those who only speak Japanese? The language restriction must be just so people don't export them... was there a scalping problem?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

It's ostensibly to stop the huge scalping and reselling problem here. Also, then yen is kinda shit right now.

Foreigner in Japan groups are pretty pissed since it's not currently clear that, if you have a Japanese account but also a foreign one, whether you won't even be able to connect your other account (i.e. lose access to all your old games). Anything that relies on system language to determine game language also suddenly becomes Japanese-only since this version will only have Japanese. It's really shitty for people who want to do anything in their native language. My wife also sometimes tries to play on my US account to work on her English.

I'm all in, baby.

I'm really excited for an official way to get TotK in 60fps. No, I don't want to emulate. I still sometimes turn that game on to walk around and stumble upon stuff. It's great. And with that app, I may actually try to get all the Korok seeds.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I never actually picked it up. So I might have to when I get a Switch2.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

If you liked BOTW, it's basically that plus a little extra. If you were a little done with BOTW by the end, then it's a bit of a slog.

Personally, the build ability makes most of the puzzles too repetitive. Additionally it feels like most of the game is collecting resources so you can then do fun things (I was even using duplication cheats and it felt like a chore).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

TotK is something else. It's so good.
