Well now I can say Disney is woke. They woke up to kiss the ring and bow down to a fucking shit lip.

[–] reiterationstation@lemm.ee 68 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I feel like these corps did a calculation and figured out everyone has an excuse to not boycott companies like Disney except right wingers who have become exceptionally good at the boycott.

In my experience those people will typically boycott brands as a group meanwhile my friends find every excuse in the book to support the major corps hurting them. Even aoc went to Florida during covid. And people wonder why they win.

Yup. Leftists Don't have that insane person conviction. Dip shits need to learn to boycott

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (10 children)

Leftists are already trying to fuck megacorps over, why would they try and placate them?

Given the nature of the show, and the fact it is set in modern day America, it would be stranger if it didn't have a Christian kid in it.

Removing any references to being transgender is pretty shitty though.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Depends where in American, where I'm at it's more unusual to be publicly Christian than publicly non-religious

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How many people are in a softball team? You'd expect at least one or two, surely?

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Eh, these days? I know hundreds of people in my state, only two of them are admittedly Christian and they’re not loud about it.

Any word on whether they're going to start telling good stories?

[–] AstridWipenaugh@lemmy.world 32 points 2 months ago

Is being inclusive of people with cognitive reasoning disabilities a bad thing?

Better headline, "Disney toes the line for Nazi scum, and Walt himself was a Nazi sympathiser even after Kristallnacht. EPCOT was his fascistic wet dream. Fuck Disney throughout time."

I wonder how China will react. Plus for them: no trans character. Minus for them: replaced with Christian insurgent.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Shit, I hadn't even considered that US/Russia/China censorship goals align so well.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The Trump administration probably threatened to break up Disney.

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nah, they probably realized that parents are generally more conservative than most and more likely to be Christian than the general population. They're following the money.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Except that's not true at all

What makes you think that becoming a parent somehow makes you conservative? It is already hard to raise a kid and usually it means at least one parent has to give up there career. We don't need to be pushing any more stigmas.

[–] Fondots@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't think the argument is really that becoming a parent makes you more conservative, it's more the other way around- conservatives are more likely to become parents

On paper it makes some amount of sense, with the lack of belief in abortion and contraception, emphasis on "traditional family values" and such.

In actuality, I don't know if it holds water. I've seen a couple studies done on that idea, and the results have kind of been a bit of a mixed bag, I think my takeaway was more that conservatives who have kids tend to have more of them than liberals who have kids, but overall rates of liberals and conservatives who have kids in general were pretty damn close.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It seems like this is more based on stereotypes than anything else. I don't think political views impact the choice to have kids much. They will raise there kids differently but that's a totally separate thing.

Let’s hope so, it’d be a shame if they did this on their own initiative.

That might be true, but also corporations always chase after approval of the White House, regardless of who's in there at the time. It's good for business.
