I bet all the fucking junk they keep stuffing through my letterbox is first class though…
United Kingdom
General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in [email protected] or [email protected]
More serious politics should go in [email protected].
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
IIRC, isn't one of the conditions from last year that universal service obligation must be fulfilled for 5 years?
Which, really doesn't feel like that long.
If they are delivering anyway, why not deliver second class too? Just gives them more work on other days
Not every house receives mail every day.
By reducing the days 2nd class is added to the deliveries. The number of houses the. Postman has to stop at is hugely reduced on those days. Meaning the routes can be finished faster. R more routes by less people.
At a guess I'd say in an average street those days would have about 25% less stops/driveways to walk down etc.
It will have little or no effect in large blocks of flats where all postboxes are in the same room. More common in cities. But for suburban and rural deliveries the effect will be huge. Even in terraced streets with no front garden. It would be a small but notable change in time taken.
PS. Not saying it's a good thing. Just pointing out why a corporate money hustler would want to do it.
This is about being able to charge more for Saturday delivery like most other "premium" delivery companies as they sure as shit wont be cutting the hours that they expect the Posties to work.
Because second class has a decent service level, even now, its possible to time your parcel delivery for a Saturday reasonably accurately for a low(er) fee. Drop second class then push up the prices for 1st class parcels.
Then when they can, with a more friendly Ofcom, they will stop first class on a Saturday and switch to a proper Saturday delivery tariff.
The most insane thing to me in this article is that it will apparently take 12-18 months to make these changes (no 2nd class post on Saturday and every other Tuesday / Thursday). How does it take a year and a half to figure out how to do less work?
Can you imagine what would happen if you did get post your second class post Sundays? Total fucking anarchy, we can't have that, so we have to make sure that it definitely will never happen.
Maybe it's to do with pre-planned agreements with companies and that's the end of the longest running contracts?
It's this. The company I work for will sign contracts with Royal Mail for 12+ months. It'll also give their business customers time to potentially switch to alternatives, either pushing people to First Class or maybe the tracked options such as T48.
Ah, thanks for the explanation
Got to train the staff, and for that you'll need a consultancy firm to deliver the full package of workshops, videos, quizes and one-to-one sessions
Wouldn't that just make first class more costly
Jokes on you, stamp prices are going up no matter what
☹️

Same with bus fares and while the DayRiders4£6
are cool and all, sometimes I don't feel I'm getting the benefit of the cost / ratio?
