I guess you could say she's the...

(⌐■_■)

...ex-CEO.

If she was trying to protect her reputation, that's a bit late. Nothing left to protect.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago

Feel like she’s more interested in protecting her future earning potential. She wouldn’t have taken the job in the first place if she cared about her reputation, imo.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm not convinced she actually did anything as "CEO." I'm sure that Elon just told her what to do/say and she made it seem like they were her ideas. There's no way she had any ability to make any real changes or do any real work.

Thats one of the big problems with working at one of musks companies

What took her so long?

[–] [email protected] 93 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Literally haven't heard anything that this person did as CEO in the two years since she joined.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thats because all of the heinously stupid things were done by the previous CEO.

she was hired to fix the advertiser exodus. Good reason to quit is this scandal would hurt her bonuses/job function.

X Pretend CEO Linda Yaccarino

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

Yaccity Yacc, don't come back...

[–] [email protected] 45 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thoughts and prayers for the next CEO to not get Grok-blocked.

Thankfully, Linda Yaccarino’s Golden Parachute worked perfectly fine.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I honestly think Musk will reserve the CEO position for himself. He's getting more and more power hungry lately. There's no way he's gonna share it with someone. And even if he does appoint a CEO they will just be a rubber stamp.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Taking the position himself would rob him of a layer of insulation from public opinion. He'll find himself another rubber stamp, if he can find someone who's sufficiently stupid, greedy, and/or desperate to take the job (and there always is someone). We should start a betting pool on how long that person is going to last before taking the fall for Musk.

I thought she was already a rubber stamp

[–] [email protected] 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

She was a DEI hire anyway, right folks?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Is it still a DEI hire if it's also a glass cliff?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

lol well it went longer than I thought it would.

I can't believe people still use Twitter.

[–] [email protected] 54 points 3 days ago (10 children)

I keep getting arguments from peoplee about this, even on Bluesky.

Apparently it's too much to expect people to inconvenience themselves and not follow their favorite musicians or whatever.

If the vast majority of people can't be assed to take the absolutely easiest step possible to fight (or avoid supporting) fascists/Nazis, then we really are fucked.

Same thing with how people could very, very easily choose just NOT to buy another Nazicar. Yet 90% if Americans still bought one last month as a year earlier. It's just about the smallest sacrifice I can think of - just buying a DIFFERENT car that you might not like quite as much.

And I think the fact that we are where we are right now also confirms the problem.

For me, it's the best place for quick sports updates. Many writers have moved to bluesky, but many more have not. Sports Twitter is the sole reason I use it.

I feel like the common use cases are:

  1. you’re MAGA nut
  2. you’re not a MAGA nut, but you want to see what the loonies are talking about
  3. You’re a marketer or influencer and you know MAGA nuts also buy shit
[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm guessing also - 3b. and you know they buy stupid shit

Lots of Nazis around these days. That's why.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Lotsa Nazis out there.

[–] [email protected] 101 points 3 days ago (6 children)

I dont really care that the average person still uses twitter... What's INFURIATING is that gov't agencies are still using that shit. Why are important pieces of information still being shared on twitter??

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

Don't be surprised that fascists use the fascist megaphone.

[–] [email protected] 50 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The Secretary of Defense coordinated military operations on Signal, accidentally included a reporter to the group chat (who later spilled the tea on the whole thing), and in that chat claimed they were "clean" on their opsec.

That's what republicans do. They're dumber than a bag of wet bags.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago

Not just signal, a home brew spy version from a foreign government.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

they would never do such a thing. not after calling out hillary clinton for using private email servers.

People just don't want to quit because the alternatives aren't populated enough.... Which is caused by people not leaving. Twitter is to many a necessity for their business, just like many softwares provided by scum companies.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

bluesky is populated "enough".

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I do think that bluesky has a ton of momentum right now and is a viable alternative. But the thing about microblogging sites is that if the specific people you want to follow aren't on them, there's not really a substitute. I know I've heard people say that, for example, a lot of japanese game developers are still primarily on twitter (I've never been a twitter/bsky enjoyer so I can't speak to it personally).

people are always resistant to changing habits

[–] [email protected] 212 points 3 days ago (26 children)

I think this every single time I see news about that website. Like what the fuck is possibly on there that justifies using that piece of shit platform? Insanity.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately I think people don’t care how the sausage is made. It has porn and ~~racist~~ edgy memes so they’ll keep coming back.

People use it for the same reason they use Truth Social.

[–] [email protected] 61 points 3 days ago (3 children)

This sketch was about Facebook but it's also relevant to Twitter

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

That was painful.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 3 days ago

Actually more relevant now, considering the ending

"Go to the site where Nazi's scream at you". It's talking about moving from facebook to twitter.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 days ago

Well the punchline to that sketch is "instead of FB, just do what I do: Go to the site where nazis scream at you!" just might be that twitter reference you said was missing.
