The gentleman had made forthright representation that he he entertained no romantic inclinations towards the young lady. Yet we observed thet he would frequently cast a glance in her direction whenever some dandy or ribald let rip with a pun, cant, parody or other amusing piece of wordplay. We can only presume this was in order to ascertain for himself whether she had found the antic to be an amusing one.
