  1. Imo it's more common for 40k fans to fetishize the SoB.

  2. Unfortunately, 40k being what it is, there's almost certainly no textual reference that would reinforce this. There might be some canon gay SoB in one of the novels, but since they're not a major faction (having been dead for like 15 years or something), there just isn't much being written about them. I found a reddit thread saying there are all of 11 full sisters novels. Meanwhile, Gaunt's Ghosts have 16, Ciaphas Cain has 10, and the Heresy is like 60.

Okay so there's no canon lesbians in it, but what's the joke about then? Are they just all women into leather or something?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 20 hours ago

More or less. They're an all-women religious militant order of "nuns with guns" who were originally designed by british guys in the 80s/90s to look like this:

Like yeah there definitely would be lesbian sisters in such an organization, but because there's nothing canon about it, it's easy for bigots to interpret them however they want.

Also worth noting that the SoB, are space fascists, like all other factions of the Imperium.

I had read one and a lot of cameo mentions in other books and there wasn't anything even remotely sexual mentioned, every single sister seemed just incredibly psychologically repressed to the maximum on many levels and areas, so they frequently snapped and were reduced to the absolutely gross state of Repentia which seems to be closer to open Khorne worship than anything else.

Also i've yet to seen any appearance of SoB that won't end with them being massacred either entirely or nearly entirely, even worse than guard penal legions.

I read a Sisters novel called the Rose in Darkness which I liked. Even if Sisters "just" got 11 novels that is much more than some of the xenos factions got :^)

Yeah, like every single appearance of exodites i encounter anywhere is solely for the sake of genociding them. And there is afaik no tyranid PoV book because it would entirely break tyranid lore lol.

"Consume. Spread. Kill. Eat. Assimilate."

Just that for 200 pages.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah that would be the only canon version.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

Eh, I'd read it; the twist towards the end would be amazing; the tyranid overlord that psychically controls and connects them gets killed and then it's unintelligible screeching for the last few pages.

Mind you GW has gotten better about Xeno books in like the last 10 years or so. Like we do have a number of T´au books from there perspective and there are even 3 Necron books ffrom their POV that are all solid. So some progress is being made. Even if the overwhelming amount of output is still focused on the Imperium of Man

Peak performance was Fire Warrior book based on computer game where the author didn't filled it with unimportant crap but surprisingly followed the game and thus a lone fresh Fire Warrior beat the living shit out of everything Imperium thrown at him. Best xeno book ever.

Inifinite and the Divine was also great, but included exodites being genocided too so at least two points minus for that.

Ork and grot stuff can be fun too, especially Da Big Dakka was fun for many reasons including completely surprising genuine drukhari romance.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Da Big Dakka was really fun. I also enjoyed the Infinite and the Divine. Which reminds me WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE AELDARI BOOKS ? Im not even the biggest Eldar fan but there has been nothing new in ages besides the whole Ynnari stuff which seemed just like a plot device to bring Guilliman back. I swear Tau got like 2 books in the last 2 years which is a fuckton of support by GW standards.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I don't even read a book when it mentions Eldar on the back cover, because while slightly less than exodites, they also always serve as a easily killed gore background (completely unlike the lore about them), and as general elf trope this horse is so dead and so beaten up it reminds me more of a fossil grounded up by steam hammer.

About Ynnari i guess they will be retconned to a total failure at some point because we really cannot have any hope in Warhammer and especially not for the Aeldari.

Sister Julien is canonically having a relationship with the Bursar (and possibly Ciaphas) in the Cain novels so celibacy is clearly not as enforced as it could be. Amberly mentions it's not actually forbidden, it's just the average SoB can't find the time given the strictures of most orders' cloistered life. If we imagine most of them to be like the stricter Catholic orders like the Poor Claires and Trappists that's unsurprising. ~~I've not read the Heresy novels but how do the SoB have characters when they're not founded until the AoA?~~ EDIT: I lack reading comprehension.

Wait, I thought there is no celibacy in the Sororitas. Afaik there is no vow of celibacy. That seems just a common misconception or maybe got retconned at some point?

They are just very devoted to their faith and role as warriors.

They simply don't have much time for romantic relationships, and obviously raising kids doesn't really work for the fighting orders, so they would have to give them away to the Schola Progenium. (In most cases I assume)

TLDR im sure some Sororitas have sex (including gay sex) but due to their role I doubt most of them have many serious romantic relationships.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah, not actually a rule, just discouraged and not practical for most. I imagine some non-militants like Dialogous that get out more with the Inquisition and Rogue Traders absolutely have relationships. In fact I'd say outside of a Rogue trader a Dalogous is probably the single highest probability for a Human Eldar relationship.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah the non-militant orders as you said are sure to have romantic relationships be a more common thing. Plus I imagine it probably depends on the culture of the order as well. Some orders might take a more laid back (by sororitas standards) approach to it. While other might not.
