A full-blown government shutdown may be coming, if reported rumors circulating among top Republican lawmakers are true.

In the power centers amongst the House of Representatives, there is chatter about a temporary stoppage of funding that could throw a wrench in the federal budget, according to a new Axios report.

"People are predicting a shutdown," one GOP lawmaker confided to the news outlet. "Even if it's just for a few days."

Axios learned a subcommittee chair told a fellow House GOP member that members are either "close to reaching a deal or it's about to blow up."

The swirling rumors come months after Congress fended off a similar threat of a government shutdown passing a bill with an 87-11 total to back a temporary funding package.

Ahh good job, it's a good thing that Republicans can't govern. And this will be a good reminder so close to the election.

Wouldn’t put it past them doing this as a means to mess with the election.

Also, remember: somehow, DeJoy, is still the Postmaster General, despite actively sabotaging the operation of the USPS, both in general, and specifically around handling mail-in-ballots across the country. I’m absolutely floored that Biden hasn’t found some way to evict that fuckstick, because DeJoy is causing ongoing damage to the postal service and election integrity and reliability by continuing to occupy that position.

It sounds like DeJoy was never a True Believer after all, but was simply doing what the boss wanted. And when the boss changed, his priorities did, too.

Biden gave DeJoy a lot of direct attention, and as a result he is happily pushing Biden's initiatives. DeJoy is now happy to get a bunch of money invested in his department, even if it is mainly for a new Green initiative. And notice how funding the USPS no longer seems to be a hot potato for conservatives? They don't want to explain how this guy hand-picked by their Messiah can be part of the Deep State now.

To me, this illustrates Biden's skill as a politician, turning a naked political appointment into, if not an ally, certainly someone with shared short-term goals. I hope it doesn't all fall apart when the ballots are in the mail, though.

That article even makes the point that this guy would probably work directly against this administration if he were let go, but while he is part of it he will seek to do his job well.

Don't worry, they'll blame the Democrats and their base will eat it up with a spoon.

Demagogue politician: "government is shit!"

Idiots vote for him and he proceeds to be awful at the government job he was elected for, mostly on purpose

Demagogue: "See? Government is shit!"

Demagogue gets reelected forever
