And so I brace myself for the usual rightist dog whistles…
There it is.
If someone gets called a fascist here, it’s almost always because that person is meeting the definition of a fascist. We have a lot of different kinds of leftists here and a lot of lively and healthy debate. What you can’t get away with on Lemmy is being an awful person. If you advocate hate, oppression, authoritarianism, misinformation, injustice, etc you will be called out.
Unless you are spending time on ml or hexbear, but tankies are rightists who unironically claim they’re leftist. It’s best to avoid those places.
There what is? Their comment gives virtually zero indication of what they actually believe or stand for, apart from a vague self-identification as "LibSoc/Anarchist"; and you're already going for the jugular.
Good job on providing a perfect example of exactly what he's talking about.
Huh, a cogent rebuttal, examples of why they think the argument they are responding to is riddled with assumptions and the theard OP engaging in the behavior that is being complained about.
Seems like you should reread both comments.
That’s not even remotely true. Misinformation that fits a leftist narrative is repeated often and uncritically. Debunking and nuance gets deleted, banned, and called fascist. Antisemitism is rampant. Russia, China, any anti-western tyrant or terror group is routinely defended and advocated for.
The Overton window on Lemmy is very narrow. People get banned from big news and politics subs for stating views that are mainstream in the American Democratic Party or European Social democratic parties.
It sounds like you might be encountering ml or hexbear, which are full of tankies, who are rightists appropriating leftist terminology for authoritarian/rightist purposes. The nice thing about lemmy is that it’s federated, so certain instances and communities can be avoided if desired.
No, this happens on lemmy.world, sopuli, and many others. The mods running news and politics communities have a political agenda they follow, disregarding their own published rules.
