I'm no conservative [I'm a LibSoc/Anarchist], but I can see why they wouldn't want to be on Lemmy. It's not the most open-minded group of people. As soon as someone thinks even slightly different in some small way, they're labeled a fascist or some other pejorative as a way to end the discussion and critical thinking process to exclude constructively contemplating what was said. People can't just have reasonable debates anymore. Insults are thrown and groupthink becomes more isolated and heightened within their own dogma. And their communities are brigaded regularly. It happens on their side too. The human race just seems fucked.
It's not a matter of "fear", it's frankly a massive waste of time if you're seeking an honest & fruitful political discussion. Much like Reddit, Lemmy is one big-ass liberal echo chamber with only a handful of "acceptable" viewpoints, opinions. Anyone else is shouted down, slandered, and of course downvoted to hell. They stuff words in your mouth that you never said, assign beliefs to you that you don't hold. Arguing with these types is like playing chess with a pigeon; it'll knock over pieces, shit on the board, and strut all around as though it's the winner.
At time of writing, your comment stands at -18....and it is 100% true, factually correct. The irony.
The human race does indeed just seem fucked. 🙂🙃🙃🙃🙃
That depends on what sort of conservative viewpoints you're taking about. I see people expressing opinions that I would associate with what I think of as Eisenhower conservatives and they are met with civil discussions. It's when people start in with the post-Nixon bigoted, poor hating, corporate/wealthy bootlicking, regressive "conservative" viewpoints that people are less likely to engage beyond calling them out because there is probably no point to anything else. One obvious exception to this is someone unknowingly stumbling into a post on the tankie triad and saying something with even a whiff of conservatism. That's not going to go well. But it doesn't take long to learn that.
They hate you, because you are telling the truth.
And so I brace myself for the usual rightist dog whistles…
There it is.
If someone gets called a fascist here, it’s almost always because that person is meeting the definition of a fascist. We have a lot of different kinds of leftists here and a lot of lively and healthy debate. What you can’t get away with on Lemmy is being an awful person. If you advocate hate, oppression, authoritarianism, misinformation, injustice, etc you will be called out.
Unless you are spending time on ml or hexbear, but tankies are rightists who unironically claim they’re leftist. It’s best to avoid those places.
There what is? Their comment gives virtually zero indication of what they actually believe or stand for, apart from a vague self-identification as "LibSoc/Anarchist"; and you're already going for the jugular.
Good job on providing a perfect example of exactly what he's talking about.
Huh, a cogent rebuttal, examples of why they think the argument they are responding to is riddled with assumptions and the theard OP engaging in the behavior that is being complained about.
Seems like you should reread both comments.
That’s not even remotely true. Misinformation that fits a leftist narrative is repeated often and uncritically. Debunking and nuance gets deleted, banned, and called fascist. Antisemitism is rampant. Russia, China, any anti-western tyrant or terror group is routinely defended and advocated for.
The Overton window on Lemmy is very narrow. People get banned from big news and politics subs for stating views that are mainstream in the American Democratic Party or European Social democratic parties.
It sounds like you might be encountering ml or hexbear, which are full of tankies, who are rightists appropriating leftist terminology for authoritarian/rightist purposes. The nice thing about lemmy is that it’s federated, so certain instances and communities can be avoided if desired.
No, this happens on lemmy.world, sopuli, and many others. The mods running news and politics communities have a political agenda they follow, disregarding their own published rules.
[email protected] has examples.
Come to Beehaw. In my experience, discussions there are more thoughtful and respectful than in some of the bigger instances. ML in particular is straight cancer.
Dull mewling.
I think there's furious and constant discussion between the various left leaning and far left groups on Lemmy, but """brigading""" isn't real. That's just using the website.
Brigading is real and your instance is guilty.
Hey, just because shitass tankies do it does not mean all of Lemmy supports those confused assholes.
Not what I was saying and you know that. If you aren't a tankie, don't defend them.
If brigading is real but only mostly .ml does it, that means all of lemmy doesn't do it and it's unfair to say it's a feature of all of lemmy. Yes, you DID imply it by the very context of this entire discussion. Or did you forget what the main topic was already?
And you edited your comment.
I don't use spell check or autocorrect. If you're going to stand on such flimsy ground, then good luck being a brainless clown incapable of parsing anything anywhere near as complex as the real world. Genuinely, pathetic reasoning from you.
Hey man, it really weird you stepped in to defend a .ml who said Brigading isn't real.
That is completely and wholly NOT what I said. Check your reading comprehension.
Goose and gander buds.
So you simply choose to be slow. Curious.
🤣🤣🤣
Conjecture.
Post proof of this or this is pure bullshit.
When and where has that happened to you on here? Let's be clear, there are always going to be individual bad actors, but outside of .ml and hexbear, that has not been a trend I've observed.
