what kind of gun is that?
It was what was called a pocket rifle, which was one of the first types of collapsible/removable stock rifles. The one that she has in particular, was marketed so that you could put the collapsed rifle into a pocket that you would have strapped to the crossbar of your bicycle.
I put a link to a blog with the actual make/model about it further down the chain.
And it's got a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.

Does this help?
Bear in mind, when the pictures were taken, objects that were moved during the long exposure could be distorted
Nah, that's not it at all. Looks almost exactly like this Frank Wesson 1870 Large Frame Pocket Rifle Second Type with Stock
Oh yes, it does! Not surprising she'd use different guns I guess. A little difficult to look up "Calamity Jane's gun" because it's the name of a gunseller, but Lensing the image brought up other pics of her.
Using "pocket rifle" the actual one pops right up.
It's apparently called the "New Model Pocket and Bicycle Rifle" and was made by J. Stevens Arms and Tool Co.

My brain is very tickled imagining Calamity Jane riding by with her pocket gun on her bicycle
That looks like it's more for target practice than an actual fight.
That's gotta be it. I was looking at it crazy hard trying to figure out wtf if was.
The shootin’ kind. Where’d she get it? At th’ gettin’ place.
A doohickey from the thingamajig store
