I work liability claims for renters insurance and the shit landlords try to pull is insane and renters are kind of at their mercy when they can keep your deposit or just add charges to your rent. I have to tell customers all the time yeah I don’t think that’s legal but you’d have to take them to court to do anything about it.

And of course you won’t be shocked at all when I say the poorer the renter and the more horrible the rental the worse they get. Public housing treats tenants worse than anyone. Because they can.
