I got paid Friday, a couple days early because of the 3 day weekend. First thing I did was pay my bills, so phone/internet/power are taken care of. I paid back some money I borrowed from my mom, got a few necessities and some things for a nice dinner with a couple girlfriends. I had a good evening after work, and just wanted to relax for the weekend. I had something like $700 in the account still, and finally felt like I could maybe start saving for facial hair removal.

Fast forward to this morning. I'm finally getting caught up on sleep, so of course I make the mistake of checking my phone. Email from my bank, my account is overdrawn... by $341. I've been crying ever since.

We just got direct deposit re-enabled, and as far as I can tell, it allowed the companies holding my debts to take as much as they wanted. On the "plus" side, a couple smaller debts are paid off, but I was already making monthly payments on these along with the larger ones, so for them to force it through like this completely destroys any ability I have to try to save or budget for unexpected costs.

So I posted this last Tuesday morning, before I went to work. Things went fine there, until on my way home. See, the sidewalk is very uneven around where we live, to the point where it's treacherous for bikes at some points ( no bike lanes and cars frequently try to pass on the shoulder at high speed, even on side roads) I was just walking, but still ended up catching the toe of my shoe on one particularly bad corner, and basically went ass-over-teakettle. I took most of the impact on my wrist, which thankfully isn't broken, but it did get a minor sprain and a nasty gash that's making it hard to work at full capacity.

As if that wasn't enough, the other major point of impact was my other hand, which had been holding my phone. It took the brunt of the damage for that hand, which ended up grinding the glass down so badly that I can see the board underneath. It still "works" as the alarm goes off every morning, but the screen won't turn on. I was due for a replacement, so I was able to get it on a payment plan, but owing more money when I'm already drained (see above) and trying to pay off previous debts is not conducive to my mental health or stability.

I've managed to work most of my scheduled hours by constantly re-wrapping the wounded hand and wearing gloves over it. I'm trying to hunker down and weather things. But the bank has started throwing overdraft charges at me for things I thought I already paid for, and I don't get my next check until the 13th. I'm terrified that they're going to close my bank account and my paypal, or ban me from the bus for not paying fare, or some major bill will have turned out to not have been processed and so is overdue on top of overdrafting me more. I don't know what to do, so I'm begging for help. I haven't been sleeping well, what little self care I was managing has fallen off because I run out of spoons just dealing with work and waking up to this situation every day. I had to throw all the money I had saved for laser hair removal on my face (something I desperately need, but can never seem to have the funds for) at this, and I'm still in the hole. I am Karim’s mother, a mother of three children. I used to believe I could protect them from fear, from hunger, from war… but the war in Gaza shattered everything.

Karim, my son, is ten years old. In one horrifying moment, he lost his leg in a bombing that made no distinction between a child and a fighter. Since then, our lives have been turned upside down. He no longer plays, no longer runs, and the laughter that once filled our home has faded. Every day, he cries from the pain. Every night, he sobs himself to sleep.

We lived under fire for months. We were displaced over and over. We were drained—by fear, hunger, and the constant noise of bombs. We lost our home. I lost my job. We lost family and friends. Karim lost his beloved teachers and many of the children he once played with.

Now we are trying to survive amid destruction, to heal with no resources, and to care for our children with empty hands.

Karim needs more surgeries as he grows. He needs prosthetic limbs that must be replaced regularly. He needs special care. And I try to be everything for him. So I thought I'd be good financially for the rest of the week, but had another small thing pop up. I got some unspecified virus. I got tested for covid and flu at urgent care and that came back negative, but I'm still feeling like death. I already have Tylenol and Benadryl at home, but I'm running out of the masks I yeeted from urgent care and want to get some guafenesin for the congestion. I'd also need like $5-$10 for gas to put in the sober living van to get to the store.

We have a new person that came into the house this week, so I really want to make sure I keep up on the masking so they don't get sick. The guafenesin is secondary, I really do need the masks though

On multiple occasions the skin infections have gotten so bad I've been hospitalised to treat them. The pharmacist recommended I use this laundry disinfectant and it's helped a lot.

I've posted a lot about my financial issues and why I can't afford to buy things for myself. I'm still waiting to find out about my disability benefits.

The disinfectant bottles are now £10.59 each. I need to order 4 to get free delivery. Either that or pay an extra £3.30 for postage. I need 2 bottles of this a month. According to the latest letter I received from the DWP, my appeal is expected to be heard in January. So I will need 14 bottles to see me through until then.

But the truth is… we’re still $945 away from what we need to stay safe these next 2 months. That money isn’t for extras .. it’s for survival.

After being displaced from Gorom camp, hundreds of queer refugees, including us, were dumped in Juba with zero support. UNHCR told us to “blend in” but that doesn’t work when you’re visibly trans in a place where your identity puts a target on your back.

Here’s why we’re asking for $1,200:

Rent – $600 for two months of shelter for 4 trans sisters

Food + Water – $300 to keep us fed and hydrated

Hygiene – $150 for soap, pads, toothpaste & communal care

Emergency transport – $100 in case we’re in danger or need to access care

Data/Airtime – $50 to stay online & ask for help when needed

As the title says.

To keep my story brief my mother died in a workplace related incident (or so I am told) and my rent was being paid by my mom so I ended up homeless. I don’t blame anyone but myself though, I should have had a backup plan or got a part time job to save up for this exact scenario.

And the rest of my extended family won’t take me in because they know I’m atheist. Even recanting my lack of faith didn’t work so I kinda screwed myself there.

I’ve been looking for jobs ever since. I had actually managed to attain one but I got fired because I couldn’t find a suitable place to work (you can read my post history for more info but the shelter i was staying at couldn’t allow me to use their internet).

I'm immunocompromised due to being a cancer patient, and need to keep my feet clean as they heal from surgery.
