My high school had the special education students clean the lunch room and take out the garbage etc, supposedly to prepare them for jobs they could do, so they were sort of on this trend. This was the more 'progressive' school in the area as well, in a blue state.

Hell yeah, I'm stoked they still play, I've never seen them but I got into them late and thought I'd never have the chance. chicken-bop

In the US basically every male I knew growing up had seen a lot of South Park, in my cohort most of us had cable and if not we could watch it at a friend's house. I didn't see it at too young of an age because we only had local channels, but by highschool I watched it pretty regularly.

True though, I think Family Guy had a worse impact and was more wide reaching. As terrible as they both are, they did frequently ridicule the racism and police violence of the US, from my view they were closer to being 'woke' than a lot of the media at the time even with their issues.

With centralized planning maybe, does he think all these manufacturers that have gone overseas will just say to themselves 'yes, I will destroy all my profitability for the good of America!!"

I'm a communist because I'm an optimist at heart. Fascists think people are savages that need control, or that the world is falling into some destined dark ages and the human spirit needs to be violently repressed to stop it. Commies see the goodness in people, that we can work together, that we can build a better world beyond pure domination and subjection.

I was raised to love all and respect all life. Communism is the only political tendency today that aligns with this value. Average westerners don't think we can do better than capitalism, neoliberalism or welfare states, but to be communist is to have the knowledge that we can do so much better.

This isn't a new idea to anyone here, I just have a strong urge to soapbox right now to some imaginary impressionable people, thank you for coming to my ted talk. wall-talk

I was in Seattle in 2020, after the protests started people were complaining that Macklemore didn't make any statement, come out to protest, or anything for months, just silent. I thought maybe he was a poser or capitalist shill. But with the recent stuff he's been saying and doing it makes me think it's possible he was part of the action incognito doing cool stuff at the time and didn't want to be open about it.

wouldn't surprise me if there are organized campaigns of incel reactionaries who organize to always endorse shit like this on nexusmods.

That's what fucking happens, these losers have nothing better to do than watch their right wing streamers all day, something gets mentioned by a few that becomes a target of either hate or endorsement and they pile on it.

While us commies are studying theory or reading about the new unfolding horrors in the world the chuds are looking for ways to fight 'woke' and they think endorsing a mod like this is part of their struggle against removed(I guess the word describing the state of being removedd is banned? Ffs I don't know how to substitute it, I'm trying to say what Nazis say society has become, a lesser form than it was, starting with 'degen')

I probably have more pity than disdain for these sorts of people, it must be the saddest existence, lonely and detached from reality.

I think technically it does. I wish I could remember who it was, but there was a case in the 60s or 70s where a Black Panther member shot a plain-clothes police officer that was attacking his comrade. The shooter got off without any charges because from his perspective he thought he was stopping an attack versus hindering an arrest. I can't imagine any armed black person not getting riddled with bullets or charged with attempted murder if they did the same thing today.

This comes off more like a hypothetical future newscast than a usual Onion video stress

I still had a good laugh though

SPOILERS for Star Trek Enterprise potentially

I was noticing it was tough for me to get into shows that started after the 2000s, and talking to someone I mused about how it must be because of 9/11. I was watching Enterprise at the time, on the season just before 2001, and sure enough, the episodes after 9/11 had a complete shift in tone, the show becoming basically 24, sci-fi War on Terror immediately. It's like a parody of 'if Starfleet had to make the hard choices to make America safe from space Al Qaeda' or something. Overall the show is better than I was expecting though, still got me hooked on the trekness.

It was clear there was a cultural shift after 9/11, especially in the mainstream US media. It was interesting to be able to see it so distinctly in a show that went from the pre- to post- era. Does anyone else have any good examples of that happening in shows that spanned that shift?

Henry is a proud father of 11, but he didn't become a father until 2009, around at least 110 years into his life. He long had aspirations of a family and had a few dates in the 1980s which ended poorly after he bit off his dates tail. He hatched sometime in the 1890s, making him the oldest known tuatara alive today, and holds the record for longest time in captivity at 46 years (he is a political prisoner due to his violent agitation in favor of Māori self-determination).

He is held along with Mildred, the mother of his children, and several other tuataras at the Queens Park animal reserve in Invercargill, New Zealand. He and his associates have never been formally charged with a crime.
