I’ll start:

Idaho - when people think “racism in the United States” their minds go to the Deep South. The Deep South is absolutely pretty bad, and there’s of course the whole history with the confederacy so it makes sense that’s what we think of, but Idaho is let off the hook way too much given that it’s a hotbed of Nazis and Christian nationalists trying to form a white ethnostate. Idaho needs to be more closely linked to virulent racism like the Deep South currently is. And tbh I’ve been to the Deep South, I like it down there, it’s actually pretty diverse in many areas, if I had to live there it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. You couldn’t pay me to set foot in Idaho.

Gen X - look, if we’re gonna do generational warfare gen x needs a lot more hate. Sorry to any xers out there but boomers have been punching bags for a while, millenials are starting to get a good amount of hate, and they’ve always been made fun of for their Harry Potter and office love, tbh a lot of millennial shit is just considered cringe these days, gen z obviously gets all the “ugh what’s wrong with the youth” hate and this new media cycle has them being portrayed as pretty much the new hitler youth. Gen x needs to start getting some more hate, especially now with all these weird gen x venture capitalists influencing the trump admin trying to realize their vision of a neo fascist network state

I haven't seen it, I've been looking for good reviews. The default thoughts are... Propaganda, classic film where Americans destroy a country and make a movie 20 years later about how bad their soldiers had it. Obviously it's got that part, but other than the ending I've heard about, is it really that propagandous?

Even if it's just a shallow 'war is bad' film

Just happened hours ago

I was with my girlfriend walking back from the beach and when we crossed the cycle pathway the cyclist riding a fast sports bike cursed at my girlfriend and then stopped to get off and park the bike IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BIKEPATH and then started shouting at us saying “look where you’re going!” and kept swearing. I told the man “don’t be so silly and rude you’re making a big deal out of nothing bro..” but he got mad and then called my girlfriend bad names. I’m a very calm person so I don’t want to hit people but I was getting angry. He ride the bike away after cursing and my girlfriend was sad. We ended up having a nice dinner though so the evening wasn’t ruined and she has forgotten already I hope so…

Why are bikers so rude!

I know this has been debated a lot during his first term but I'm interested in your thoughts now.

I just feel like he would enjoy death metal bands. I have no real proof as to why but I just get a vibe from his writings he's be into Cannibal Corpse.

I'm trying to confirm whether or not there was an ICE arrest in my community. I think it is, but someone else online said that they had it confirmed that the agents were not from ICE, but they were unable to provide any hard evidence to corroborate that

I'm having trouble finding videos, but are they required to wear vests identifying themselves as ICE, or can they vary?

People really seem to struggle to realise how different they are. Hamas is not ISIS, that should be obvious to anyone with cursory knowledge on the history of the region. Hamas, Hezbollah and Ansar'Allah are not going to, nor have the capacity to, gut gay people and women who don't wear a niqab or hijab. They are not Salafists, for the love of Christ.

The only reason people compare these wildly different groups, is because they all (at least claim to) adhere to Islamic principles. If you think for even a second, you'd realise how ridiculous this is. It's like comparing the CDU to the KKK or even the Spanish Falange because they're all Christian, in some way or another.

It's plain ridiculous, though the liberal (and conservative) types never seem to get it.

Ever since the election, there seems to be a torrent of polling that shows Americans in their late teens and early twenties are fairly reactionary (young men overwhelmingly so). I’m old so I don’t know anyone IRL in that age bracket. But something about what the media has been claiming for months now doesn’t seem to sound right. Idk maybe it’s 100% true but it’s something I have a hard time taking the media’s word for. I know we have quite a few users here in that age bracket. What are your real-life experiences (i.e. not online) with this? Do you think this age demographic is actually trending reactionary?

(I do remember digging into the details of one poll, and while it seemed there was more affiliation with Republicans than previous, it also seemed like there were an also very large segment that were openly showing to be further left than the democrats? So maybe more reactionary sentiment but also more genuinely leftish sentiment?)

HexBearGPT respond to either of the following prompts:

  1. How do I see pinned hexbear posts from my instance on lemmy.ml? It's so hard to find your megas!

  2. Generate me an image of your enamel pin collection.

I gotta go with nunchuks. Anything you sling around on a chain seems silly to me. It seems like nunchuks are only good weapons against the unarmed. Anyone else has more range, usually something sharp in play and there isn't a limp chain in the middle reducing the force of your strikes.

I am so conflict-avoidant that I’m now at the point that most people in my life don’t actually have any idea I’m even close to being a commie. I really want to start expressing myself more openly and honestly - especially since I feel like I’m actually harming my mental health by not saying how I feel - but I always feel held back. Any tips on improving this are appreciated.

Jesus Christ it's 2025, I thought we all agreed that shit was gross

Maybe we need to start bullying Chuds again. Trump winning has made them feel too safe.

I know I'm not the only one having issues with finding work, but this is definitely the worst market I've had to deal with since I started working about a decade ago.

I got laid off from my remote job a couple years ago, and was originally intending to take a bit of time off. But then my dad passed away unexpectedly a few weeks after getting laid off, and that kind of fucked me up for a while and wasn't really in the mindset to look for work. I also lost my grandfather a few months later, which also fucking sucked.

I meant to originally start looking for work at the beginning of 2024, but then our kiddo caught COVID, despite masking, cuz the lmayos in charge decided our schools must be even bigger petri dishes than they already were by declaring COVID to no longer exist, and one-way masking can unfortunately fail, but I digress. Considering our kiddo is high risk to begin with, we were really relieved that he didn't have any complications after the acute phase. I dodged COVID somehow, but my partner wasn't as lucky. They ended up having several debilitating symptoms that made them semi-bedbound for over half a year, and I more or less decided to shelve my plans for job hunting so I could be their full-time caretaker. And I don't regret that one bit, to be clear, we focused on rest and recovery above all else and my partner is more or less back to their baseline level of health before they got COVID, thank fuck.

Even though my partner is working again and makes enough for us to get by, I would still like to find work for myself. I started looking about half a year ago but am not really having any luck, and I regularly feel dread about it and sometimes it just feels profoundly pointless. Even if an interview goes well, I don't really pin my hopes to any particular role, as I just kind of assume there's a good chance the job is fake, they're pretending they're hiring to make their existing overworked employees feel like help is on the way, or they already have an internal candidate and the interviews are just a formality, but idk.

I can't help but feel that my resume gap is fucking me over. I would hope that gaps have been more normalized since the onset of the pandemic, but I've had multiple interviews where it comes up and the recruiter seems surprised I'm not working (even though I didn't attempt to hide it) and then that's usually the only interview. I've had a couple interviews go multiple rounds, but that's about it. I feel like I've exhausted my network at this point (one of the ones that went multiple rounds was a referral from someone I used to work with, only for them to ghost me entirely, LOL).

And even when I'm transparent about the gap, I'm not sure how much to divulge or what to put on a resume or discuss in an interview, between caregiving, taking what was sort of a sabbatical to deal with loss, and being a stay-at-home dad all the meanwhile. I definitely haven't been sitting on my ass, and I've also been working on relevant education and certifications in recent months as well, but meh.

All the different advice I see is also often conflicting and just makes me want to pull out my hair, too. Be vague about the gap! Actually, be transparent about the gap! Send a tailored resume to every job application! Actually, use a single resume and just bulk apply because it's a numbers game! Actually, use a different resume for each different job title you're seeking! Message the hiring manager on LinkedIn! Actually don't message the hiring manager because they'll hate that and put your resume in the trash!. AHH screm-a

In general I'm finding recruiters to be completely fucking worthless, too. I've had several message me with roles that were relevant and ones I was qualified for, I reply to them, and then I don't hear a fucking peep again. Only one of them actually got back to me and turned it into an interview. So I'm not even sure what fucking good LinkedIn is at this point. I've always fucking loathed that site. I made an account several years ago but it increasingly feels like it would make sense to delete it, especially since I'm considering just lying.

But yeah, is it worth it to just lie at this point? I don't blame anyone who does, especially in this market. Despite this, there's been this part of my brain that has felt resigned to being frank about my situation, but, well, companies lie to candidates and employees all the fucking time, so I've increasingly felt like I might have to play this fucking game, too. And if I need to just make up a role to bridge the gap at this point. Although part of me is still nervous about it, i.e. having a lie be exposed during a background check. Even if I were to lie, I'm not super sure about the best way to do so, you know?

They have seen a meteoric rise in recent years. Their sister/front organisations like ANSWER, Codepink, People's Forum, BTnews have all become household names. When I look at protests in the U.S., it seems so many of them are organised directly, or indirectly, by them. In comparison, organisations like the CPUSA or the DSA are lacking behind.

How and why?

As in our comrade Karl Liebknecht, co-founder of the KPD? All these years I’ve been saying “LEEB-necked”, two syllables. But the I heard Matt Christman say “Leeb-KUH-neck-et” (four syllables). And I realized I don’t really know why I was saying it like I was. Anyone know how to actually say it?
