i would rather have a broken leg or something, everytime some stupid virus finds my its way into my nose i am a fucking wreck for 4 days, while my wife just shrugs off the same goddamn virus with ease.
She's always laughing at me when i have a cold, because it really fucks me up beyond all recognition. she simply cannot understand why a bit of a cold has such a profound effect on men.

i agree, they do deliver pretty good researched articles. it's the only news site that gets monthly donations from me, and i'm not even interested in podcasts

In the current cat generation: the oldest does love to take a bite or two from sourdough bread, and another one likes nutella (which is poison for him; he isn't the smartest one if it wasn't obvious)
I talked with my wife about this a few days ago. Education and economic issues have a huge influence on this.
If you have issues with the huge complexity of the world around you (because of functional illiteracy) or cannot spend some time to form your own opinions (because of economical insecurity and long hours, kids make it even harder), you don't have the capacity to engage with messsages more complex than "immigrants bad" or "Eggs expensive" - stuff that you process emotionally, not intellectually.
I think that's what made Obama's campaign so powerful - everything boiled down to the simple one word message "Change".
