I am a sufferer of PTSD from various horrific traumas.

In short: yes. It's weird. You should talk to a professional about it.

If I could take away these debilitating, paralyzing memories and responses my body has formed due to trauma, I would. It prevents me from living a normal life and I suffer from it every day. Even have a note in my charts that lets medical professionals know that my massively elevated heart rate & blood pressure are a trauma/anxiety-response, not an underlying condition.

I guess maybe I'd view your desire as those kids on Tiktok that were mimicking/cosplaying mental illness, autism, & Tourettes syndrome, because they didn't really understand the implications of suffering that a lot of folks who have those things go through.

Again: I'd strongly suggest seeing a professional about this.

This is wonderful!

A friend of mine is from Europe and frustratedly told me "imagine having to be diagnosed as 'gender'." I could not.

Trans folk have to put up with so much horseshit for just trying to exist.

Avelo made an interesting and rather emotional video on the subject.

Thank you. She's an incredibly talented writer and ridiculously creative, thoughtful, & kind. She was only just starting to live her life independently, and it was ripped away from her with the diagnosis.

We need to advocate for those who struggle to / are unable to do so for themselves.

My little niece just turned 19. Weeks before her birthday, she was diagnosed with cancer and is currently going through chemo.

These people can go to hell if they think they can put her even more at risk because of whatever shitty agenda they're pushing.

Party of freedom.... fuck you, fucking fascists.

You'd be surprised at how many people state false "facts" about NK, as if its people are emerging Neanderthals.

Unfortunately, you often have to assume that statements like these are serious. Because many are.

No worries!

North Koreans know what cell phones are. Many have their own specifically made for North Korea with their own private network & walled internet access, iirc.

It got taken down? Not locked? Why? :(

Well, yeah, and testing would cut into profits and possibly / probably require culling, which would cut into profits even more.

God bless capitalism! 🫠

Know what tipped me off that Lemmy really doesn't get nuance?

There was an article about a ride-share / taxi company that cateted to women and provided drivers who were also women, to make them feel safer getting a ride.

The comments were absolutely venomous, calling it out as "sexism" and how "what's to stop me from identifying as a woman and calling? They can't refuse me!" which.... fuckin' oof.

But I figured out why they're upset: because they want people to be treated equally instead of acknowledging that some people have different needs that may require extra services to level the playing field.

Equality vs. Equity.

Ohhhh this is why my posts finally came out of the negatives.

Thank you!

There are some issues & experiences that women go through that men will just simply never "get", and that's fine. But invalidating the answers & experiences from women is why I believe there are no longer many women participating in conversations on Lemmy anymore.

I mean.. looking at all this, why would they want to?

Is it controversial to say that I'd rather converse with a bear? Or do you suppose folks get upset about it?

Maybe, just maybe, folks who do not understand it should listen to what women have to say about it? But many are thinking about it completely removed from the contextual experiences of women. It's.. awful.

My cat passed away around 2 years ago now. I miss him a lot, but just haven't been financially stable enough to adopt another.

Could you post nice stories and funny things about your cat(s) and talk about how much you love them? Thank you!

How much time have you spent being single?

If you're currently single: is it by choice or circumstance?

Do you / did you enjoy single life?

What are / were the pros and cons?

Is / was partnership a goal of yours?

If you're currently not single: Did your goals change after getting into a relationship?

What are the pros and cons?

Seagulls are protected under the "Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918". This means that it is illegal to capture, kill, or keep a seagull in your home (unless you have a special permit).

So, no: you cannot go into the Meijer parking lot, yoink a seagull from the flock, and take it home.

This PSA has been brought to you by an argument with my son during a grocery pick-up.

Thank you.

It's painfully obvious that the Lemmy population is primarily men.

Frustrating.

edit: to save my sanity, I choose believe that the majority of comments here are trolling. Y'all cannot genuinely be this dense.

I wanted to talk with other women about this to get more clarity and it turns into..this. Damn.

I head up a small community for fans of a niche indie brand. The founder is doing an event in Japan with an exclusive item for people who attend! I was so excited and was looking into booking a plane ticket to go!

However.. turns out that Japan has a law that absolutely forbids stimulant medication in the country. And, no, I don't really want to upend my regimen of 8 years and risk going on a new medication for the trip.

I'm really shattered, as I wanted to attend this cool event and meet up with other enthusiasts. It really hurts to be barred from an opportunity like this.

I hate ADHD. I really do.

Just need a bit of help, if anyone can spare a code.

Thank you!

My recommendation is a small thing: a trashcan with a swinging lid!

Covers the trash, reduces smells, will prevent trash tetris (sometimes), and very good instead of foot-pedal opening trash cans or trash cans put in a cupboard.

Another thing are toothbrush holders that stick to mirrors. Might jog that memory of needing to brush your teeth!

Wall-mounted keyholder by your door, too. Anything I put on a flat surface will eventually be lost or covered with more junk & papers. My keys are WALL-ONLY!!!

What item(s) have helped you with your struggles?

"Female" (sopuli.xyz)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

After this "fun" little catastrophe of a thread concerning the use of the word "female", looking at the comment section, it's painfully obvious that the majority of Lemmy's userbase are men. That's not a generalization, that's a literal fact.

"It's just a word!", "Maybe English isn't their first language!", and "Overact much?" seem to be the most common replies.

So let's do what should have been done in the first place and ask women their opinion:

What do you think of the word "female" being used? Especially in the context of the linked post in question? When is the use of the word appropriate vs. not appropriate?

EDIT: I think the post linked got taken down. Good.
