Oxfam's research found that the world's fifty richest billionaires produce on average more carbon emissions in under three hours than the average British person does in their entire lifetime. On average, they take 184 private jet flights in a single year, spending 425 hours in the air. This produced as much carbon as the average person in the world would in 300 years. Their luxury yachts emitted as much carbon as the average person would in 860 years.

Diana Buttu, a Palestinian lawyer and analyst, said Israel does not want the world to see what is happening in Gaza.

“On the one hand, they’re not allowing international journalists, and on the other hand, they’re assassinating those journalists who are there,” Buttu told Al Jazeera. “And then, they’re smearing those journalists who are there and somehow labelling them as targets.”

Buttu stressed that, under international law, people can only be considered legitimate targets in war if they are combatants who engage in fighting – accusing someone of being affiliated with an armed group, whether true or not, does not make them a legitimate target.

She added that Israel is “turning international law on its head” by labelling people as members of Hezbollah and Hamas to justify their killing.

Neonicotinoid are a class of pesticides harmful to human brains and sperm and deadly to bees, insects and birds. They are banned in Europe because of the ecological harm they cause. Canada initially planned to follow suit, but relented after years of pressure by industry.

Critics were unconvinced by Naqvi's response.

"For the past decade, Health Canada has repeated the line that they are examining the evidence of harm from neonics, all the while continuing to allow their widespread use," said Lisa Gue, manager of national policy for the David Suzuki Foundation.
