The notion that any politician right now NEEDS to do anything is a desperate and lazy claim by the citizens. We are the ones that need to rise to action. They are quite comfortable where they are.

Too bad they’re paid not to by their corporate overlords.

Pelosi's little crusade against AOC should be a wake up call to anyone thinking the Dems have any way of moving forward.

Get rid of the dinosaurs and embrace progressivism, or perish.

The old guard seems to prefer the latter.

Dems seem to have fallen completely off the face of the Earth since the election. Looks like it will take a while to get over this. They better do it fast, though.

This clip is just a bit chilling to hear them say it out loud and welcome it. I get it they’re Russians but we’re cooked unless something happens between now and inauguration. Only posting the link to reddit because I don’t know which video the clip is from and wasn’t going to sift through Russian pundit videos. I periodically check that subreddit in hopes something does happen because as we all know trump is a Russian asset and they only want the downfall of America. He will divide us all. What we can do though is not let them win and we need to not turn against our own people, no matter how much we disagree on politics because the end result will be much worse.

They dont need to "act like" it, they need to actually be it.

The dems suck too. This is a class war. We need a class party. One where no office member can make above what the bottom 80% of the country makes and no dodgy bullshit or gifts or spousal income workarounds or anything else.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That'll just mean only rich people will hold office in that party.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No rich people would be allowed to hold office in that party. That'd be the point.

So homeless then, I guess. Unless there's some secret sauce to owning/renting a home in DC and your home district while making $16k annually (that's the average after tax income for the lowest earning quintile of the population)

Edit: i may be misreading what you meant...if you meant they'd be in the 4th lowest quintile, that gets its up to around $120k...still a tall order.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

You were misreading.

What I brought up obviously doesn't have all the details ironed out. Just a base concept. Add some money in for the 2nd home.

That's literally all they've been doing since Reagan.

acting like an opposition party.

It took way too long, but that's why you can't drum up the numbers anymore, all but the thickest of skulls have finally realized that Democrat and Republican are both just big corpo, bickering over the social issue symptoms of our rigged economy and society as they maintain the economy and it's perverse incentives as it is, on the same take by the same oligarchs.

At least Republicans throw their horrible voters a bone, "Oh you hate the other? we'll be cruel to them to entertain you and tickle your schaudenfreude fancy!"

Democrats get nothing for their troubles. We're told it's our duty.

Meanwhile, killing your own non wealthy customers for moar profit? R👍D👌

I'm reluctantly happy that people are starting to see that wedge issues are crafted by corporations and parroted by business bought representative to pit man against man who can barely buy bread to the point where e pluribus unum was meaningless there decades ago. Greed has no party affiliation.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Pass laws to limit election spending/fund raising so that the playing field is about as even as we can manage. After those are set in stone and strong, dismantle the national committees and open the actual gates to allow whoever to run for office.

Even doing this wouldn't change much though. The popularity contest not at all based on policy would still reign supreme and American voters are still American voters.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

we are passed the ballot box.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 3 days ago

No, they need to be an opposition party for the first fucking time in decades.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What I've learned from the last two presidential elections is that right now, the incumbent party loses if people are unhappy with the current state of the country. A clever, but evil opposition party would try to make things worse.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

This is why "doing what republiQans do" isn't a useful tactic for Democrats. Never has been, though the party leaders have never learned it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They'll come up with a nifty hashtag like #resist or #democracy

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And send out even more fundraising emails.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Hey, Obamna here, I need about $3.50.

The key work here is "act'' like an actor.
