I played the game for the first time (without the DLCs) as a melee weapons, neutral, NCR~Mr. House leaning character who finaly choose the Yes Man route to sole power over New Vegas and decimated the legion fort, alone, just before the battle of Hoover Dam.

The thing I liked the most is how worry and maintenance free melee weapons were. No bullets to buy, no weapons to buy to maintain the current ones. Also, being quasi indestructible due to high endurance was cool.

Are there any other builds that don't require too much maintenance/minmaxing and are fun ? (I'm not interested in doing an unarmed build rn, but I could be convinced by some really cool stuff I may not know about them)

i have a tradition to replay FNV on a yearly basis. every year i come up with a fun build/ challenge to self-impose in order to make each playthrough feel more unique and fresh. of course, these playthroughs are all modded to hell and back, which lets me get even more creative with the challenges.

this year, i did a playthrough where i made it so Stimpaks are auto-used whenever i took any damage and disabled healing from foods.

since you look to avoid going through the hassle of modding the game beyond the NV guide, i could still recommend you consider build challenges where you limit yourself to only using a specific set of weapons, like, for example, "pistols only".

A self insert character maybe I don't know I have no experience with role playing part but always love energy weapons and lockpick/hacking after doing a hand to hand character in most games

I might try the energy weapon thing as they are easy to come by (fiends, the dutch people)

After achieving the canonical ending, your protagonist wakes up in Doc's office. Something is wrong. They've been here before.

They eventually theorize they are in a simulation or dream. Some sick mother fucker is making them experience the horrors again, and it seems this omnipotent being wants them dead. New threats exist where there were none. Everything looks a bit different, sharper. When they prevail, the being gets desperate. This not of this world start appearing. Dragons, aliens, anthropomorphic Choo Choo trains. Will they survive? Is God playing games with them? Are they even real?

(TL;DR Mod your game to hell and back with no regard for canonical consistency and your protagonist is aware of the discrepancies and has to deal with them while having prior knowledge of this world and it's major plot points)

I would, but managing mods for bethesda games is something I would not wish on my worst enemy 😔 So I'll stay with VivaNewVegas

Legion sniper killing NCR on sight.

Read it as "Lego Sniper" and had some sort of fallout themed lego city commercial come to mind 🤣

"A man has been shot in the Colorado River near the city!"

I played a Legion throwing spear build once that was a lot of fun, but I think I needed some mods to expand crafting or make the spears retrievable or something. They pin people to walls sometimes like the railway rifle from 3.

You’re only on your second play through? Wow. I remember those days…

Watching movies, playing games, reading books etc... multiple times isn't my thing generally. The only game I was able to replay was Cyberpunk 2077 and I very much enjoyed it. I see a similar potential of enjoyment in FNV

I got Cyberpunk on sale for $10 just because it was cheap and I have still never played it.

But I 100%ed EVERY achievement on New Vegas, so if you enjoy my old favorite game, I'll probably enjoy starting yours!

Wow, that's impressive

I don't think I've ever 100%-ed a single a game

if you enjoy my old favorite game, I'll probably enjoy starting yours!

A little disclaimer: CybP77 doesn't have as many choices and factions as fleshed out as in FNV

The writing is good, combat also, some sidequests are absolutely excellent and the game isn't tedious (as long as you don't play as a hacker). However what really does the heavy lifting is the ambiance. It is the absolute perfect cyberpunk world, no other piece of media can beat it at that. At least in the base game. The DLC flips it up and introduces an exceptional main story, ok-tier sidequests and not-so-good new zone. Despite its flaws it's one of my favorite games of all time, you should definitely give it a go !

Worry if this last part became a CDProjektRED ad 😅 I could talk about this game for hours

Ps: Happy Cake day !
