1. Server Main Rules

The main rules of the server will be enforced stringently. https://lemmy.world/

2. No spam or reposts + limit off topic comments

Spamming posts will be removed. Reposts will be removed with the exception of a repost becoming the main hub for discussion on that topic.

Off topic comments that do not pertain to the post at hand may be removed if it is deemed they contribute nothing and/or foster hostility at users. This mostly applies to political and religious debate, but can be applied to other things at the mod’s discretion.

3. Post must have Antiwork/ Work Reform explicitly involved

Post must have Antiwork/Work Reform explicitly involved in some capacity. This can be talking about antiwork, work reform, laws, and ext.

4. Educate don’t attack

No mocking, demeaning, flamebaiting, purposeful antagonizing, trolling, hateful language, false accusation or allegation, or backseat moderating is allowed. Don’t resort to ad hominem attacks against another user or insult other people, examples of violations would be going after the person rather than the stance they take.

If we feel the comment is uncalled for we will remove it. Stay civil and there won’t be problems.

5. No Advertising

Under no circumstance are you allowed to promote or advertise any product or service

6. No factually misleading information

7. Headlines

If the title of the post isn’t an original title of the article then the first thing in the body of the post should be an original title written in this format “Original title: {title here}”.

8. Staff Discretion

Staff can take disciplinary action on offenses not listed in the rules when a community member's actions or general conduct creates a negative experience for another player and/or the community.

It is impossible to list every example or variation of the rules. It is also impossible to word everything perfectly. Players are expected to understand the intent of the rules and not attempt to "toe the line" or use loopholes to get around the intent of the rule.

9. No posting links to Twitter/X or Meta owned properties

Social Media products such as Twitter/X and Meta Properties (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Threads) are known low quality information sources - they actively spread misinformation without sufficient moderation, hate speech. These platforms each have billionaire owners working actively to eliminate labor protections through direct action, lobbying, performative large scale layoffs and attacks on institutions that enforce labor law.

You are not encouraged to do so, but you may post screenshots from these sites IF THE INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE ON ANOTHER VALID PLATFORM. Screenshots must include info to support a relevant conversation within this community and must show a VISIBLE time/date stamp for posterity. If you are caught manipulating content of a screenshot, your post will be removed and you will receive an indefinite ban from this community at the discretion of the moderator(s)

No pass through/archive services are allowed as they potentially feed traffic back to these services, directly or indirectly (e.g. Services like Xcancel or Nitter)

"Brian Thompson was never satisfied with the Status Quo."

Yeah clearly he wanted something closer to Handmaiden's Tale

Fuck UHC. I hope you’re doing better. If so consider getting a lawyer and/or going to the newspaper if you think you can do it.

No one should have to pay for that. No one.

He was basically euthanized by comparison to what he and his company did to people.

Euthanasia could possibly even be more painful than a well aimed gunshot to the head

If wishes alone could kill, there wouldn't be a single health insurance executive alive within 24 hours.

  1. Rape kits aren't free? I figured that because it was a response to a criminal action it counted as more legal than medical... guess you learn something new every day...

  2. BEING RAPED IS A FUCKING ELECTIVE PROCEDURE!?!?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW!?!?!

[–] [email protected] 35 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When I applied for a driver's license in Texas, they had a list of things that I could choose to pay extra for, one of which was donating money towards testing rape kits. It still infuriates that they tried to pass that off of random people.

One of the biggest scams the American Government ever pulled, was claiming that its responsibilities were actually that of the citizens, and that anyone who expects the Government to do anything but wield an iron fist is a "Whiny snowflake looking for a free lunch"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Those whiny snow flakes would really fuckin appreciate it if you called them by their proper names, billionaires.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's just a symptom of the actual greatest scam: making people think the government should be a "them" instead of an "us."

Its responsibilities are those of the citizens. That's why the government exists: to regulate, pay for, and administrate those responsibilities.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

That's why they exist in theory. In practice they serve a social class that's very much not "us" except for lip service

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

I'm not sure how old the image is, but I know many states (since this shit only happens in one place, it seems) have made laws requiring rape kits to be paid for by the police, even if you don't want a report. I don't exactly remember how it works, but you do have to report the crime to the police, so the hospital paperwork gets handled, but you don't have to have suffer through the interview of a detective or the DA's office.

[–] [email protected] 60 points 3 months ago (1 children)

So because she likely hasn't the energy to sue, they just lie? Being raped is not an "elective procedure".

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

"you could have kept the illegitimate product of rape child"

[–] [email protected] 37 points 3 months ago (1 children)

A rape kit is to collect evidence. It has nothing to do with emergency contraception. The ER can prescribe something like Plan B for that purpose, but it is not something that a "rape kit" does.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Why is law enforcement not paying for it? You know, as part of investigating the crime that took place.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

My first thought was whether this is the real problem. Giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, is this process when arranged by police covered, but if you pursue it yourself without charges not covered? I know nothing about this specific scenario but insurance companies love their paperwork and loopholes. If you don’t do their paperwork the way they want, they make sure to have a loophole

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Why would you pursue it by yourself? I'm not trying to sound judgemental with that question but what purpose does it serve other than evidence gathering?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Of course it’s speculation but the article didn’t mention police. If the police weren’t involved maybe it’s as simple as not wanting to pay for a test which might not even serve as evidence.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

What's the point of getting the kit done at all if the police aren't involved? Isn't that what they're for? To collect evidence of the crime.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And what do you think evidence gathering might lead to?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Well if everything in our justice system worked as intended it should lead to a criminal prosecution. Which is why law enforcement should be paying for it. Expecting the victim to do so is asinine.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

That is an amazing question that we should all be asking our state-level representatives.
