We're currently looking for volunteers to moderate a few rooms in the GZD Matrix space, especially those in UTC-1 to UTC+8 (roughly Europe, Africa and the western half of Asia). If you've been active in the Matrix space for at least a few months and are interested, DM any of the mods in the space and we'll send some vetting questions and guidelines.
After more than a year of updating /c/capitalismindecay consistently, my computer decided to stop working properly for a few days and I unwillingly broke my tradition of daily updates… I hate neglecting that subcommunity since it is so important to me. I hope that nobody was panicking over my absence.
Not panicking just yet but I'd be sad to see it disappear!

what’s syndicalism and where can i learn about it?
Syndicalism is the believe that through unionizing the work force you can eventually gain control over the means of production. While I support unions I think it's a bit shortsighted and Lenin's critique of trade unionism in 'What is to be done' is a good explanation of why.
For example over here in Belgium over 60% of working people are unionized yet there is no serious push by the unions in favor of overthrowing capitalism and installing a socialist model.
I met someone who is a Free Mason. Not like a LARP thing but an actual Free Mason like the Illuminati group thing those conspiracy people on facebook rant about.
Apparently it is a real thing and he said lots of higher up people are part of it in our country. He said if I wanted to join he'd do a good word for me so of course I said yes lmao. Dying to see what it's all about.
I had a few acquaintances who were Free Masons. It's actually not a very uncommon thing, they are basically everywhere. IMHO, it's just an old men book club.
There is a Free Mason community center type building about two blocks down my street. They usually just seem to rent out the space for normal events, I even once had a work holiday party in the basement there. They are apparently legit Free Masons though, its a pretty prime piece of real estate they have too and its impossible to find out exactly who owns it. I've never properly met someone who is a part of it but it's definitely an odd bit. They advertise it here as a "men's club" sort of thing but I'd be very curious to know what type of person is involved there and what they do. Very little info on their website, and have never come across any of them in the community.

We managed to get a seat in the municipality government of the city of Mons and now one of the country's banks refuses to finance city projects lmao
Today at lunch some colleagues were discussing cancel culture because of some inappropriate old 'funny' song. It went from 'shouldn't cancel it' to 'statues of slavers shouldn't be removed' to 'hitler was bullied by Jews but sure that isn't a reason for genocide'

My most recent thought on understanding the difference between US liberals and conservatives (posting it here cause kinda random):
Liberals are dinner party fascists/imperialists. "We don't talk about that," "you're upsetting people," "let's just try to be nice forced smile."
Conservatives are schrodinger's douchebag fascists/imperialists. "We should totally do something evil, ha ha, just kidding, unless...", "[insert racist stereotype] just a joke tho, if challenged on it, but is deadly serious," "saying that thing that was threatening to you or a minority group was just a troll, a prank, lolol."
But what they have in common as attitude: Both love to shift blame; it's anyone's fault but their own. Both love to downplay or deny atrocities committed by their 'team', or pin the atrocities on some other group (e.g. "it was ackshully the communists who were so bad, ackshully have you considered what Russia is doing when you say colonialism bad?"). Both think it's never the right time to take an ethical stand, unless their party leader tells them it's time to (and they project, accusing other countries of being leader worshipers) and then it's through a warped lens of colonizer binary good/evil, with their "ethical stand" being "we are the civil against the savage."
The cultural acceptance of ableism and abuse of authority in Parkdale high school of Toronto, Canada, fit in the toxic culture that you described especially when some victims of Communism are supporting the brutal authoritarian culture that the Chinese Communist Party eradicated.
I haven't really been bothered by the Ukraine war for the past three years but with things seemingly escalating now I am becoming uncomfortable. Honestly no idea what I will do when war breaks out.

very politically influential US energy firms have been quietly selling off renewables and planning to ramp up gas and weird distributed nuclear for at least the last 6 years. I used to work for one but I left when they ditched renewables.
