Remember this?

There is no preparation or even an awareness of how bad this is going to get in this country. Tens of thousands of people will die when this happens and there will be no accountability, no plan, because effectively the entire population (with the help of the mass media) has willingly gone along with the idea that "climate change doesn't exist" or that it will just mean sunnier weather, for decades and decades. It is hard to have sympathy for a society so rich, so rotten, and so thoroughly warned of the consequences of its actions.

Thought I remembered a bunch of people dying in heat waves a few years ago, and a quick search suggests that there were ~3k deaths in england and wales. But of course this either "isn't here yet" or "isn't a serious problem". Fucking climate change fascists.

Last time climate change got any real public attention was in 2018/2019. After that, it got replaced by Covid, which got replaced by Ukraine-Russia, which got replaced by new Middle East conflicts.

The only thing the West cares about now is sizing up their military to kill people in the Global South. They'll eventually turn those weapons against their own people of course.

Indeed, this is going to be apocalyptic. It's also worth noting that the grid is not set up for mass AC usage, so most people will have no means of cooling their homes.

the govt actually refuses to subsidise reversible heat pumps because the additional grid load in the hotter months would be unsustainable

there will probably be legal restrictions on AC in the future as it's becoming more popular gradually

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, it's really not clear how the grid could cope with that much demand.

A bit hot innit

I'm travelling on Saturday through a bit of country that the last time it was 28/29C,like it's supposed to be this weekend, & I was going through it was basically just one big wildfire. I suspect it will be the same.

Britain cannot cope with heat. And that's just the actual land and infrastructure, never mind the fact that no where has any air conditioning.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

no where has any air conditioni

How the fuck are people so stupid that they're not working night and day to rectify this when if they don't literally millions will die

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 weeks ago

Probably because the wealthy have access to AC and it’s largely the working poor who don’t

already happens with some regularity in france

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 weeks ago

But you're in France and not the UK so it's way better

Stop trying to make us feel better.
