Welcome! Have you found the Lemmyverse Explorer? It's a great way to find communities to join, and other instances in case you want to make a backup account.

Thanks for the all input you give to me. But, Iโll try to survive and continue to sustain in this instance as long as I can. Let say one day Iโve been kick out from this instance, at that time Iโll quit Lemmy forever.
Oh ya, for sure, but at least check out that site for the different communities you can subscribe to (the equivalent of subreddits here).
I also use these communities to find other ones: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
Thanks, mate. But which one are the most active from all that three communities that you share to me?
All 3 are pretty active, although the bottom one is a bot community hat automatically finds rising and popular communities in the fediverse. The top two are similar, but one seems to be about just generally bringing attention to communities people want more users in (community promo), and the other is about advertising newly created or revived communities (new communities).
I personally subscribe to all 3, but I'm always trying to find new communities to add to my home feed. I prefer using that over All or Local.
Noted with thanks.
Hello and welcome! I didn't see a couple things mentioned that I thought were very helpful to me with the instance choosing, so I just wanted to pass it along...
If you look at your account kinda like an email, all the emails can communicate with each other, just like the instances can communicate. Though, an instance can also block another so thay it can not be seen/interacted with. Like, gmail deciding they will no longer accept yahoomail, for example.
.ml has been blocked by a variety of others, so you may be missing out on some interests elsewhere, that you would enjoy.
I use an app and have a few different accounts, the app lets me just swap my sign in profiles back and forth as I like. Sometimes a server goes down or an update goes bad. Having another account let's you check in on the action, on those who are still up and running while the other gets worked on. You can even use the same name, your @ will just change.
Initial sign up is roughest step really... but not much harder than grabbing a new email!
OK, that was more than a couple, hopefully something was helpful though and helps your experience here!
I never knew .ml was banned by other instances. This explains a lot actually
Thatโs exactly what I thought. Instances is like email providers. I just hope that we can use just a single handle that can choose different kind of instance just like Reddit. Itโll a lot more easier I guess.
Hi there! I would reccomend continuing to poke around at any instances that seem cool to you.
But Iโm too lazy to make an another account. ๐ Anyway, thanks for the advice, mate.
It's ok lemmy.ml will make that decision for you sooner or later.
I do hope itโs a pretty good decision for me. ๐ค
Hey, welcome! Glad youโre here
Thank you, mate.
First of all, welcome to lemmy.
Second of all, make a second/ backup account on a smaller instance based on what youre gonna use Lemmy for.
Thanks for the advice, mate. I really appreciate it. ๐
Ya I use different accounts on Lemmy to customize my home feed right now since Lemmy doesn't have a multi reddit-like feature yet. Also, every now and then an instance goes down, had technical problems, or people randomly decide to defederate with it. That person's advice is pretty good. I mostly stick with this account now, but I feel better knowing I have a backup lol.

Msg the .world mods to see why it failed. I had to make one on .world as .ca was having email issues, once I msgd the .ca admins they said "Damn it!" and added me manually, good luck
Yeah, I think I got a same issue. In my three times sign up application, I successfully link my email all the time but it end up I canโt sign in my account. But donโt worry Iโm fine with my .ml instance so far. ๐๐ผ
Glad you're liking it so far, welcome!
Just a word of warning, however. The instance you're on is rabidly authoritarian communist and they have to proselytize, if you say anything bad about China or Russia (and to a lesser extent, Iran, North Korea, really anyone who doesn't like "The Westโข ะฑะปััั") you'll likely be banned. If that happens, try any other instance other than lemmygrad or hexbear which are more of the same but worse, all the rest (like db0, .ca, .ee, .world, etc) are cool.
I warn you, because sometimes it ends up taking people by surprise who thought they were joining a general instance not a "marxist-leninist" instance (especially now that they pretend that isn't why they chose .ml, 3 years ago they admitted it but now they downplay it to fool the newcomers.) Sometimes it turns people off the fediverse entirely (because y'know, murderous idiots aren't great company) but I just wanted to say that while you'd still have to deal with those people due to federation the mods on other instances don't have their back and you won't be banned from say .world for saying the Chinese government is a problem. Finally I'd like to add that there are instances which don't federate with the worst two, hexbear and lemmygrad, but not many that don't federate with .ml.
you won't be banned from say .world for saying the Chinese government is a problem
Because this is literally their agenda. Try saying anything relatively positive or neutral about any of those countries on .world and see how "non-authoritarian" they are
Thanks for the friendly reminder at the first place. To be frank, at my current age, I try to learn about any side of political views either nationalist or socialist so the fact that this instance are surrounded by socialist followers or advocates doesnโt bother me at all. I try to learn a good value from everyone, everything and everywhere. But one thing, I just be proud that I was being accepted to this instance, which are the pioneer and consist of all the developers for Lemmy.
Welcome, friend!
I'd advice you to be cautious with lemmy.world, it's turning into a new Reddit
(and it's bad for the network/federation to have such large centralised instances anyway. So you'd help keep the network healthy by choosing an instance besides .ml and .world)
Thank you, mate! Luckily I canโt sign up through the .world instance.
You probably already know the join-lemmy.org instance picker, but in case you don't, here it is:
Oh that is the instance finder, right? Yes, I already know about that. My bad. Thank you anyway.
Not yet, mate. Thanks for the link.
