I’ve used this for several years. I miss when it was trivial to get scrobbling support on anything. Weirdly despite how portable players now have access to Wi-Fi & Bluetooth tethering, nothing support scrobbling out of the box. Last.fm even used to give good recommendations before it went downhill. You can say there is now value in trying to help ListenBrainz make a new recommendation algorithm with open data, but less folks have been using such platforms in the wake of leaving their data in the hands of Spotify & YouTube.
I'm hopeful that other projects like Jellyfin (which can support scrobbling via plugins) will turn this around

I actually started using my own media and am trying to cut down on streaming. Went back to last.fm a few weeks ago.
I don't feel libre.fm is very active in development?
Try using musicbrainz's scrobble service, listenbrainz - it's actively developed and works pretty well.
Yeah especially with local files. streaming scrobbling is still a little iffy but local work amazing. I recently bought a dap and and with a 512gb micro sd card i’m having my whole streaming library offline and in .flac format.
There were some news on major overhaul of libre.fm recently IIRC.
I just did a hunt for some recent info on libre.fm and found a blog with updates..

looks like the reboot of libre.fm is located at https://github.com/foocorp/hacienda but is still very in the starting stages.

Verb scrobble (third-person singular simple present scrobbles, present participle scrobbling, simple past and past participle scrobbled) (Internet slang) To publish one's media consumption habits to the Internet via software, in order to track when and how often certain items are played.
Noun scrobble (plural scrobbles) A datum or the aggregate data collected by this means.
"Mom, I want Scrabble."
"We have Scrabble at home..."
It's a term invented by Last.fm that didn't really catch on more generally because it's too silly even for the Internet.

I never never cared about my own or other people's music listening history. And I never talked to one who does. So I never needed a word for the thing, I guess.
Some people actually do, especially for people from similar music fandom.
I use Last.fm for more than decade and its nice to find fellow friend that have incredibly same niche music taste.
In a way, it's the same as peopel sharing books collection on Goodreads or tracking movie list on Letterboxd.
