Let's take that as true. Is it not then incumbent upon the person saying this to think about why so much of her audience would hate it, what that says about her own position, and how to incorporate this line of questioning into her future analysis? Especially someone who considers herself a public intellectual on some level? Between this and the "tankies are just palette-swapped capitalists who uncritically support anti-west factions out of nothing but sheer ontological contrariansim" take yesterday, the thing that irks me about her (and all libs) isn't that she's wrong, it's that she's so smug and self-satisfied in her ignorance, so content to just echo the same self-soothing myths liberals have always told about communists to assure themselves of the innate superiority of their own ideas and minds without having to go through the tedious formality of actually engaging with the ideas and minds of others.
