Who's your favourite X-Men character and why is it Storm?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Jean-Luc Picard.

Mostly because they somehow nailed Xavier as being similar to Picard, sometime before Stewart was cast as Xavier.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

From the films? Wolverine. Love the attitude. Or maybe the Cavillrine, simply cause of the shotgun arm reload for the claws.

Storm because Halle Berry.

Rogue, because she just wanted to touch people without them dying and the other X-Men treated her like a traitor. Yeah she can bring dead things back to life, but never being able to be physical with your loved ones ever without killing them? Yeah I'd cure that shit too.

Edit: I get the metaphor to marginalised groups, like the LGBTQ+, and that the cure is a metaphor for like, conversion therapy. But also, they have supernatural powers and hers is sucking powers and life force out of people. She cannot be cool like Storm and control the weather, and she cannot read minds (unless she takes those powers). So, in my mind, the metaphor falls apart when it comes to Rogue. Gay people don't kill others by virtue of their gayness; she can. That's the difference and I hate how the other X-Men reacted to her. Storm is all like "noooo you're perfect", but she can hug her loved ones, Soo there.

πŸ™‚Today I bought the last of the materials I need to restore the cabinet and frame of my old sewing machine. It's about 120 years old and it's a functional machine so it has a lot of knocks, it looks old. I got medium grade steel wool to clean the iron up as the hardware store didn't have wire brushes and I got paint which included primer. A new paint brush with an extra long handle for those hard to get at bits. I'm quite excited to get it all done. It won't look pristine or even great but it will look good. Next I might tackle cleaning up the machine inside. I have a new belt to put on and I have machine oil and rust remover. Might even touch up some paint.

Also bought some good dark furniture wax to protect the newly painted big chairs and the sewing machine cabinet.

I have loads of microfibre cloths for these jobs.

Patina is a good thing. Over cleaning is a flaw to me. I’m assuming some sort of treadle Singer.

I found out that I only needed to press one magic button on the Spotify app and it would've turned everything on for me. AUTOMATICALLY. Holy moly.

And now he wants to show me how to sync the lights. This too much.

Sometimes I think about running away to a foreign country and starting again with a completely clean slate.

Circumstances of late have forced me to think about old jobs and the horrible things I went through and it's quite triggering.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Negative experiences (shit job, shit family, shit friends, trauma, abuse, etc) will cause triggers to manifest naturally, it's the brain 'misfiring' doing risk assessments and memory recollection, similar to the way ptsd works. Something in the world reminds you of that time, and your brain treats it like a new threat rather than a memory, even though it is just a memory.

You can run away across the seas, but you will still have your brain reacting to triggers.

It may help to recentre yourself by reminding yourself of what you have achieved, your goals, that you are not 'there' anymore. That you have come so far despite your past experiences, and fuck those times where you were in a hard place. You persevered and you are succeeding.

Sorry for the rant and possible lack of help this supplies 😬

I think once certain things are resolved which at this stage looks like will take six months to resolve it will be better.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sounds like you've got a lot of the past to let go of. Speaking as someone who dragged the past around like an anchor for far too long. Even if you were to go overseas, you can't escape from you. I hope you can one day find a way to let go of it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

It's weird. Sometimes I'm good for 12 months, then something yanks me back.

Idk about any of you. But $35 to get into the Royal Melb Show to pat and feed the sheep and goats was 100% worth the price of admission.

The piglets, deer, llamas, and rabbits were just so dang cute

They didn't say what breed they were, but I reckon they're mini lops. You can tell by their size (a bit bigger than a guinea pig), and their ears are 'loppy' hence the name. Dwarf lops are bigger versions (like what PeelerSheila posted). They're super common pets because they're very friendly and docile.

I couldn't believe they had actual deer! I did end up getting a photo of one!

https://royalshow.com.au/

It's on until Oct 6 but it is terribly expensive. Best to bring your own lunch and snacks and look at all the animals and other competitions.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah, we got Tix for 35 bc we both have Health Care Cards. Otherwise it is exxy as. Still is.

Didn't get any food there, but did buy some coffees, checked out all the animals (ag shed, petting/feeding the animals) and went into most buildings. Got a show bag for Mickey, because they had a cat one, and he loves his new wand toy. And I bought a little cat ring heheh. Hopped on two rides. No regrets, and today was a good day as it wasn't too crowded at all.
