The Euro-American chauvinism, ignorance, audacity, racism, orientalism, and cope that comes out of the mouths of ordinary citizens who consider themselves smart and experienced is just too much for me sometimes.

May I borrow your words. I am autistic and words fail me more often than not when dealing with emotional subjects like this. well said

I was at the anti-NATO demonstration in the Hague today. We were with 5000 people and we made a stand, although I wished we were with more. It was pretty international, with the Belgian PvdA and the Turkish TKP participating as well. There was a lot of police for such a small demonstration and they were clearly trying to intimidate us. During the march there were three arrest buses following us which were later joined by police on horseback. On every side street there were always a dozen police officers and a couple of police vans.

Edit: I forget there was also a police van with cameras on top filming everyone the whole time

There were also some pro-ayatollah Iranians present, like not just critical support but full support for the government. The women were all wearing chadors. I heard rumors they were embassy staff, or paid by the embassy, which I don't necessarily believe. There were times where anti-regime Iranians in the march were clashing with the pro-regime Iranians.

I saw we were there with 350 people.

Saw some people get mad at a banner depicting I think a Hamas soldier but I'm not sure. Optics wise you can have an opinion on that, I guess.

Anyway I hope the protests continue the next few days.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago

Dutch left reddit already auto fellating for both sidesing the conflict saying Iran needs regime change as well

So far for critical support I guess. But that sub sucks anyway.

مرگ بر آمریکا، مرگ بر اسرائیل.

Long live the resistance. Didn't expect the US to escalate so quickly. Thought there would be at least a couple weeks to try to manufacture consent.

I live above and Italian couple and I guess just by being in close proximity to their internet usage I get suggested lots of italian migrant content in social media and it is just Italians bashing Belgian food lmao

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Understandable, unless they're also bashing the fries

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lmao Dutch Fürher Geert Wilders is coming to my Dutch hometown soon for some anti migration bullshit

Contemplating going to it for shits and giggles

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am going to assume he is also anti-EU? I would assume because easy migration within the EU is a core tennent

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah he is. Campaigned for a Nexit at one point. Didn't get that much traction tbh.

He has been proxy governing The Netherlands for the last year and pulled out of the government a few weeks ago because he found the government was too lenient on migration. Which is funny because he appointed the migration minister. Proper fascist shit he is.

My hometown is a heavy working class city so I'm guessing he wants to show himself to his voter base. Hope we show him what working class actually means.

Going alone doesn't sound safe. You should bring friends, maybe try to organize a mini protest.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We really need to reinvent cities in Belgium and The Netherlands as it's only becoming hotter and drier for the next few years. Absolutely scorching sun right now but everything is traditionally build to keep the warmth in. Not nearly enough greenery as needed. And as a result we're getting wrecked by the heat.

Some of my inner city hasn't got a proper park nearby for miles. Only concrete squares but they trap heat even more.

And then you have lunatics like Amsterdam who have organised a festival on the city's highway and won't call it off. Have fun partying on fucking asphalt in 32 degree weather with full sun.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

32 degrees on asphalt. Reminds me of my home town. Only it was like this the whole year.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Amsterdam Municipality is not really known for their amazing plans

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

Thought I'd share some more light hearted news as a man walking his dog near a Belgian body of water yesterday found a Caiman wandering around and now a big search has been set up lol. They assume it is released by someone but otherwise climate change is taking up some really drastic forms.

I reread this topic for the first time in a while, and, unexpectedly, I started crying. (Maybe it was made worse by how I could hear this anthem.)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

There's probably a cool thesis that could be written about a contradiction within the "America First" movement by being both anti-war and USA exceptionalist in times of decaying imperialism that can only maintained through war. Tucker Carlson and Tulsi Gabbard are the best examples of this.

From @Middle_East_Spectator:

I am literally seeing Iranian larp Zoroastrians / pro-Democracy liberals and nationalists now siding with the Islamic Republic.

Israel has united the most unlikely of alliances. Iranians united for the homeland.

Very happy to see how the Iranian people from all types of ideology united against the zionist siege.

A very prominent figure in the Belgian neolib party (the ruling one) got on tv to talk about Gaza. He called Israel an apartheid State and he says that Palestinians have no other option than to die, live under oppression or flee. He even went as far as to say that if he were born in Gaza he himself would have become a terrorist to fight Israel. He says Israel is one of the worst disgraces of the century.

Now, I was blown away by this. This is even more harsh words than our party leaders use on tv. Like, fuck me man I 100% agree.

And this all goes directly against his own party's stance too.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Am I going to need to start liking the Belgian Neolibs? or is this a stopped clock is correct when someone sets it

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Oh no it's still shit. It's neolib mixed with Flemish nationalism. But he thinks this way because years ago he visited Israel and got to see how Palestinians were living and how they were treated and that radicalized him when it comes to Gaza.

Which shows that he at least has some integrity. He is pushing his party to take action and as some sort of last resort has now decided to go on live shows to talk about it.

Is Mamdani another AOC or is he more legit?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Generally speaking, if they reach beyond municipal politics, and want to join the join the ranks of ghouls in the fed. gov't, such a politician becomes AOC

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

He seems to be a bit more legit, if he actually manages to pass the policies he promises. But yeah the affiliation with the dems doesn’t help

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I have never heard of Mamdani but I think it is safe to assume if they are a member of the democrat party they are just another AOC.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah he should've ran as an independent

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Days after a dude killed a completely random person on a bus in my city another person attacked random people with a hammer. This time I was actually near it. Idk what's happening but this city is on a shithole speedrun lately.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I also just read that Antwerp police ran over a nine year old boy, who died

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

It's a Jewish boy and I can't believe I'm saying this but this was bound to happen, police or someone else. The Jewish district is a danger traffic wise. Just today I nearly hit three kids myself who cross the road without looking, even through a red light. I ride my bike there daily and every single day I wonder if someone gets killed. Complete chaos and everyone ignores the traffic rules or exist solely in their own world it seems.

One of my clients actually saw it happen in her way to our office. She said the police car was driving with lights and sirens but the boy just randomly wandered onto the road, far from pedestrian crossing from in between parked cars.

I don't want to blame the kid because that just seems wrong but sooner or later this was bound to happen. Absolute tragedy.
