I thought this whole article was fake for a sec, because the image is clearly AI generated. Turns out they just grabbed a frame from the original video and AI upscaled it.

i personally don't see the AI artifacts in that image

  • Basically everything about the person in the front (Head shape, clothing, feet and their interaction with the sand)
  • the wave spray
  • the odd looking misshapen buildings in the back
  • the people in the back are missing limbs or even any and all human features (in the original you cant see them either, but in the high resolution version they would be visible if it had been photographed at that resolution)

It's not hard to dismiss, at least for locals to the seaside I assume. Tsunamis are preceded by a quickly receding tide before the wave is visible, and official channels will issue warnings.
