Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.

Much like Three Diary of Anne Frank or Maus- it must be removed because it's too sexy for young minds.

"Climate change not a thing" says state about two inches above sea level.

I guess the good thing is that this problem will eventually solve itself.

It would hurt property values if people were afraid to buy on the coast

Definitely should build a wall. Call it… America’s cock ring.

When I moved from Florida to Connecticut years ago, I already felt so behind in college. I can’t imagine how little an education going to be worth to this population outside of Florida in the future.

“How do you write an environmental science book to appease people who are opposed to climate change?”

They're not opposed to climate change. We're all opposed to climate change. They simply deny that it exists to keep the corporate profits flowing to their big, rich donors.

I call that pro-climate change. They clearly favor accelerating it.

Good point.

The irony is climate change doesn't care if they exist or not, either.

The people pushing this don't care, they will be rich enough for the short term effects to not affect them. After that they will be dead from old age. They just want to extract the max before they leave this place, as is their tradition as the boomer generation.

It's our children and our children's children who are in big trouble and they have proven many times not to give a fuck about children.

I've said that about a great many things over the last few years. One of my favorites is, "The Covid virus doesn't care whether you believe that it exists or that it will kill you or people that you love. It doesn't have a dogmatic political identity. It's a strand of RNA. It is apolitical."

That’s ok the repeated Cat5+s will teach the children anecdotally

That took me a second, I was wondering what Ethernet cables had to do with this...

We need something like themissingpages.com where kids/teachers can download a nice book specific supplement for their textbooks. Same font and language style, similar art…

Obviously the information is out there for anyone interested to find. But this would be a nice fuck-you :-)

I wonder if pirates can come to the rescue by providing uncensored textbooks to students.

How many high school kids will go out of their way to seek out and read extra text books though?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Honestly if you market it the right way, maybe lol.

Just pretend to be qanon and post the text with the title "the stuff the government banned and doesn't want you to see"

Add some nonsensical conspiracy on why it was banned and I feel like you could actually hook a few people.

“Anarchist’s cookbook” vibes.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 4 months ago

Oh lord we've come full circle. The government literally doesn't want you to learn the truth!

Wake up sheeple!
