In a surprising twist that has sent shockwaves through the educational television community, beloved children’s entertainer Ms. Rachel has officially taken over Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. The first order of business? Retiring the iconic overalls for a collection of cozy cardigans that would make your grandma jealous.

The announcement was made during a special episode where Ms. Rachel serenaded the audience with a heartwarming rendition of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” leaving millions of toddlers confused and nostalgic adults thrilled.

I'm not sure it's fair to say that someone succeeds Bob Ross when they have less than 5k subscribers. They could have 500k and still be virtually unknown. That's not to nitpick at popularity, but rather to point at how, well... there's a million Beyonces out there who become nothing. Talent alone isnt what made these people great. They came into our homes and touched lives. If 5k is all it takes then I'm Bob Ross too.

edit nevermind TVs still exist im dumn

He's succeeded Bob Ross because he's literally hosting the Joy of Painting. Who cares how many subscribers he's had.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Oh okay! I thought it was just about the YouTube channel. Like someone was advertising a random YouTube channel that used the Joy of Painting aesthetic. I didn't realize PBS was airing this show again! That's amazing.

I didn't know that, pretty cool

This seems like a good move.

She's ok, but when I get bored and my daughter wants to watch her, I tend to put it on 0.75 speed cause it gets trippy. The way she likes to sound out things just makes her seem like a drink substitute kindergarten teacher.

Lol wtf. Now I need to try this.

So Daniel Tiger is, as far as I can tell, a followup to mr. Rogers legacy. Maybe I'm a softy but I tear up sometimes at the show.
If someone can put that org behind an entertainer with a progressive, pro emotional development perspective, they could be great.

I didn't know Daniel Tiger was related until just yesterday. I watched some Mr. Rogers as a kid but not a lot. I do very much appreciate the style of the show now that so many kids shows are just stimulation overload!

I've never heard of Ms. Rachel. is she an onion invention or someone worth knowing?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

In addition to what the others said already: she was recently accosted by right wingers for making a "happy pride" post where she said she was glad to have all the LGBTQ parents and friends in her audience, and was glad they were who they were.

That's probably the reason it's an Onion article.

I knew about the controversy (if you can even call it that, so dumb) but it wasn't the inspiration for the article. Just thought it was a fun idea to write about. It would be cool if it actually happened and I predicted the future like The Simpsons does though.

She has a insanely popular youtube channel for children. She's much better than most as her content can be educational and just isn't designed to sell toys.

yeah my little granddaughter just loves her to death...

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Aight that’s pretty popular

Apparently some meme potential

[–] [email protected] 30 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'll add that her focus is on helping children learn to talk as she has a daughter with delayed speech.

I would actually be perfectly fine with this.

Same, this woman is a living saint just like Rogers

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 months ago (1 children)

i couldn't think of anyone better for the role!

I watched Mr Rogers all the time as a kid, I give him a lot of credit for the values I have as an adult and hold him in the highest esteem. He would be elated for Ms Rachel to take over I’m certain of it, that’s just the kind of guy he was and what little I’ve seen of her with my young nephew cements it.

Presbyterians don't have canonized saints, the way Catholics do. But if they did, Fred Rogers would probably be at the top of the list.

This actually isn't a terrible idea.
