Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Man, the Steam Deck bros are really insufferable, aren't they?

Weirdly fine, hm...

Hmm cause... It could be the battery. Or maybe the battery is fucked. If that's not the case they could probably have a look at the battery and see if it failed.

It's their way of saying they try to blame the customer first.

I wish portable devices went back to being made with toolless battery swapping in mind like the old game boys.

I think I would be more okay with having to undo a screw or two as long as it was still just as easy to get the battery out. The way the Advance SP and DSs handled it. Lithium batteries are slightly more unfriendly to being handled than AAs and this is a device aimed at children. Your point stands though.

I think the New 3DS had the best implementation. The swappable backplate were cool and provided easy but child safe access to the batteries behind 2 normal Phillips screws.

Nintendo: “Well, it’s obviously not our rushed production schedule or choosing to use cheaper parts… I wonder what it could be.”

Are you like fucking kidding me..? It's been less than a month and there's QA issues

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's why you never pre-order. Never. Still never.

It's been less than a week my guy

Even with the vast majority of people having no issues, with millions sold, that's still a good number of people just got a bad one. The article only reports two instances.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not really too unusual for a launch as big as this to have some bad units slip through QA. If it's a handful of people, I'd even say that's pretty impressive. This starts to effect a large enough percentage and then you've got something worth getting upset about.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah this is like making out a monitor having a dead pixel is some huge scandal and discredit to that company.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

There's always a percentage of devices that will show defects, especially the launch wave. QA can never get 100% of units passed.

Does anyone remember the PS5 issues with the disc drive, rest mode, coil whine etc during launch?

Now if this turns into a pattern / widespread issue I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon, but this is not out of the ordinary.

E: typo

Exactly. We're hearing about the edge cases so far, which there will ALWAYS be some for any product.

Not defending Nintendo here. I'd love to be playing the new Mario Kart, but not at those prices.
