Y'all better learn to carry...

OP, are you aware that thetrace.org is an anti American publication? Jennifer Mascia headlined this as if civilians shouldn't uphold their second amendment right to bear arms and hold tyrants accountable. Americans should call out the publication for how unAmerican that company is.

Well, said civilians are doing a shit job right now when there's an actual tyrant... So.. Shit or get off the pot..

Shit or get off the pot

I found it hilarious disarmament folks are downvoting me to hell, when I'm not even American.

"Unamerican" is just another word for "sane" and has always been save for a short period during the 1940s.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So, are China’s genocides “sane,” after the 1940s ofc?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're not, but genocide is also a very American act gestures at manifest destiny. My point isn't that entities hostile to America are good guys by default, but that so-called American values are and have always been a farce and that supporting or opposing something depending on its "American-ness' is illogical.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How are the American-ness values of liberty, arms, and the right to overthrow tyrants “insane” or “illogical”?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Because those are what Americans think they believe in, not what they actually believe in when push comes to shove. You overthrow an American-aligned tyrant and you're suddenly a terrorist, the wrong people wield guns and they're suddenly taken away (see: Black Panthers) and I'd certainly like someone to tell the prison-industrial complex about the liberty stuff. Americans like to call these "American values," but if you care at all about these values and take even a cursory look through America's history and at its modern states, the only logical conclusion is to hate America's guts. Therefore, being un-American or anti-American says nothing about one's disposition towards tyranny or liberty.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago

Then let’s hope to end hypocrisy as well, because the publication in the source wants to oppress by disarmament.

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-trace/

Overall, we rate The Trace left-center biased based on its political positions supporting gun control and high for factual reporting due to using highly credible sources and a clean fact check record.

Reread your quote. Leftists do not support “control,” much less that of your prohibition to arm yourself. Those are tory plights.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago

I'd wager they're an American, where they believe their conservative-lite Democratic party is left leaning.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They can and do support both.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How do you support tools of oppression as a leftist?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Because the tool of oppression can also be a tool of liberation. Because the power to take a life is also the power to save a life. Because with power comes responsibility, and if people cannot handle that responsibility then we as a society should not be granting them that power.

I can in fact be in favor of both the right to own firearms and the use of legal controls on firearms. If you can't understand that then I'm afraid I can't help you.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I see. So instead of reflecting that leftist want bolt cutters, master keys, and seeds, you prefer to cognitive dissonance yourself your need to oppress instead.

Safety isn't control. And in tyrannical occupation, more tools to liberate the better. The fact you confuse the two says you want to oppress folks instead.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think you're just putting the words you want to hear into my mouth. Why don't you go pet a dog instead?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ah, domestication. I see your absolution then.

Leave us praxing anarchists alone as well then. We don't want slavery and leashes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

That's what we all get for the far right glorifying that little shithole.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

And that's how to start a civil war

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Violent Radical Right Plants! paid by sor... elon!

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago (4 children)

If you're wielding a gun I don't think you are a protester.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

No, if you are wielding a gun I don’t think you’re a counter-protestor. That is just someone looking to shoot someone.

Protestors generally could carry a gun to defend themselves.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As a veteran, I wish that I could band enough veterans together to protect these and other protests, whilst being armed to intimidate any bad actors from the thought of preventing people from the right to organize and protest under the constitution. FYI, I work closely with cops (but not working for them) in my new line of work and they are a bunch of dickheads that need to be reminded that there are people with a shit more training that could make life uneasy for them (because of yellow belly's).

All of this to say, while I don't disagree with you, ideally all protesters would be unarmed. Until they have some form of protection that doesn't involve cops gassing and shooting them with rubber bullets, or people driving their vehicle through the crowd. They deserve protection from people that still believe in the constitution and especially the people that swore an oath to uphold it.

Easier said than done sadly.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago

I'm more worried about the double edged sword that creates. Sure, you have more people protecting the protests, but then they could see that as an escalation which means more cops or ICE and potentially more bad actors. Now you're gonna need more protection and next thing you know you are in an arms race with ICE with an ever increasing risk of shit going down. It's definitely a tricky situation, but based on some of the videos I saw of agitators during these protests, they were looking for a fight. And whether it was a gun or a car, some of them did start a fight.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Strong disagree. I think most protesters being armed would make for better protests.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

But at the same time if they didn't have trigger happy cops to deal with and "counter protesters" with guns they wouldn't need to protect themselves so aggressively. I get where you are coming from and I agree that people need to defend themselves, but if we go down this route the most likely result will just be more violence. I'm not ready to let significantly more people die just because I'm pissed off. I understand that things are bad but they can be so much worse.

On a side note, even though I disagree with you this reminded me of the episode of South Park where everyone in town gets a gun and it finally gets everyone to speak their minds about everything. And then someone, I can't remember who, says something along the lines of "wow, guns really are amazing" as they all finally get along while they all point guns at each other. Off topic as all hell, but it made me laugh.

Given that the person who accidentally shot Ah Loo also credibly prevented a mass shooting, that's not the gotcha you think it is.

No they were shooting at a leftist known for legally open carrying at protests, and there's video of him just walking with the gun pointed down before he gets unexpectedly shot at.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Oh, that's fucked up then. Should definitely be arrested and charged.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

good guys with guns to stop bad guys with guns.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And that's how we ended up with cops in schools and, in some cases, teachers with guns. And that hasn't backfired whatsoever. /s

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

no lies detected.

just ... staring at the place we've arrived at with naked disgust, is all.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Cops always leave the large groups of armed people alone. I wonder why...
