A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

How I sleep during this shit after watching nearly 40 years of proxy wars unfold

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

Iran bought into their own propaganda and thought they can actually do something this stupid and achieve any kind of success. LMAO at Iran. They should pray there wouldn't be any severe repercussions and I don't believe there wouldn't, Israel and US have been waiting for a reason to cripple that totalitarian hellhole for years, it would even help Ukraine too as Iran is the best buddy of Russia these days.

context? what happened over there?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 7 months ago

Iran chucked a few drones and missiles at Israel. They got blasted out of the sky by a few different militaries. Iran said it was retaliation for the embassy attack and considered the matter settled.

2024 oddly feels like the right year for WWIII to start

[–] [email protected] -4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

How many more concurrent wars do we need before we call it ww3? Some would argue we are already in ww3.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

Those people are wrong

[–] [email protected] 23 points 7 months ago (1 children)

There are currently no superpowers (US/China) actively engaged in conflicts with boots on the ground.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Technically only US is a superpower. China isn’t quite there yet.

We can be in ww3 without US being involved.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'd argue that China has achieved superpower status at this point. But I agree with you that there could be a third world war without the US, just like last time. However, it'd be difficult to have such a war without a superpower. Last time, we had a few more of those.

I think the PRC lacks something in the soft power stakes; they've created some degree of good will outside the West, but they suck at projecting cultural output that doesn't stem from the imperial Chinese era.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I've been saying that Israel are a bunch of incompetent fucks unable to realize they're surrounded by hornets nests, but it looks like they're about to bring peace to the middle east (by being the common enemy).

My only wish is that the USA and NATO don't get dragged into a drawn out conflict over Bibi's stupid asshattery.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Lol, the whole conflict in Gaza has been going on for as long as it has because the US and Israel want Iran to do this. They've been wanting a reason to wipe Iran off the map before they get nukes, and they fell into the trap card.

Oh shit, I put down my shit to go learn about fruit tree grafting in the meatspace and that's when the boogaloo kicks off.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Someone downvoted this. It is the fruit, then, sirrah? You dislike my grafts?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Another?! Have at thee, varlet! From NCD's heart, I spit at thee.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I think they were upset about meatspace when you should be using the far superior meatrix

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Hmmm, meat for thought....

[–] [email protected] 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

not true i was taking a nap. the missiles look cute tho, 7/10

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

I mean, of course the missiles look good

  1. They fly; and
  2. They were produced by a military industrial company
[–] [email protected] 45 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Oh wow, this is the first news I got on Lemmy before MSM.

They say you always remember your first. 🥲

[–] [email protected] 21 points 7 months ago

Welcome to the best sources, sources used by the NSA and DARPA, probably....

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

you're three hours late

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

Me, waiting eagerly to see a huge spike in oil prices once trading resumes.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 7 months ago (4 children)

citing abc news (link here), us official says 400 to 500 drones

unconfirmed reports of ballistic missiles in the air too, it's all osint right now so no good source on that yet, if i get one i'll add it as a reply

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

update 2: these were confirmed, but only later. ultimately, it was: 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, all intercepted outside israeli airspace, and 120 ballistic missiles, most intercepted outside israeli airspace. some noncritical damage to nevatim AB (east of beersheba)

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

these stayed unconfirmed

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

okay, here's al jazeera reporting on the ballistic missile, it's a one liner but it's something

this is a saturation attack imo, the question is, at what target?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Does this mean Iran would stop supplying drones to Russia?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

At this point I believe the shaheds are manufactured in Russia. I know at minimum some quantity of them are.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

if you're refering to facility in alabuga, then they're making hulls, but not sure about the entire rest of the drone. russians are also clearly capable of making warheads
