Y'all, this is why you need to vote, including your local races. All an ideology like this needs to grow is fertile ground, a propaganda apparatus to spread it, and a willing legislature.

Vote like your lives depend on it, vote like your families' and friends' lives depend on it, because it very well might.

Republicans are why we need the second amendment.

May we never have to use it for its intended purpose.

(Sorry for semi-necro. My instance is about 4d behind yours.)

On Lemmy or even Reddit, no one should care about late replies. It's not like you bumped a thread or anything.

The part I like about Republicans going batshit crazy and becoming murderous thugs is that nobody will do a goddamn thing about it because "free speech and religion".

America is an abject fucking failure and Americans are pussies.

They're really only pro fetus. They don't care after the baby is born.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And shit like this is why the state should never be permitted to kill people. It inevitably uses that power for evil. How long is it going to be before women who have miscarriages are executed?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

If the people in that room get their way, next year

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Abbot's Deregulated F'ed up Texas is turning into a religious nutter theocracy resembling a few countries in the Middle East.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

So if the whole premise is based on Hammurabi’s Law: eye for an eye, life for a life, are they also planning to execute the babies whose mothers die from pregnancy-related complications, or am I off base here? Just wanna see where the line is.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Of course not. You are thinking about it all wrong, they don't have a consistent ideology that can be interrogated. Consistency means nothing to them, it's pointless to try and find contradictory beliefs. They are looking to oppress and terrorize the groups of people they deem lower, that is their goal. Being consistent is a hindrance towards that end and more than that, the don't believe they need to be consistent. To them, they are deserving of ultimate power, being inconsistent is how they display and enact that power.

These Christian extremists all agree until the women in question is their daughter, sister, granddaughter, etc.

Funny I just heard about someone calling for the death of Texas Republicans

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

I like that I am not allowed to call for the death of radical fascist republican scum but wwe can post articles all day about radical fascist Republican scum calling for my death. If liberals weren't pussies about guns and "rights" we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Video player is broken for me. Anyone have a mirror?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

In the bathroom, not sure it would help unless the video is reversed

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

K. So turn off the lights and say bloody mary 3 times while looking in the mirror

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (7 children)

Because all of our problems will go away if we just continue to vote. I'm not sure if you've noticed but that doesn't seem to be working out so well for us.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Voting is one of the few things people have the power to actually do to fight this shit. So fucking do it. If you can do more than just vote, then do that too - but vote.

Worse case scenario, it doesn't matter and you waste some time. Best case scenario, you save your community from the very tangible evil that is on video in this article discussing how they want to fatally punish women for seeking healthcare.

Our system is broken as fuck, but that doesn't mean we should just bend over and take whatever these chistofascists want to shove up our ass.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

they want to fatally punish women

Murder. They want to murder women. No need for euphemisms.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Worst case scenario, we continue to lose rights in this state until my whole family is illegal in one way or another.

Maybe you misread my comment, or maybe you just want to feel good about yourself, but I never said don't vote. I implied not just voting.

This is no longer, darn we lost territory. Wake up. Do more than echo empty sentiments in leftist echo chambers.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

If that's actually your intent, I'd recommend rewording your initial post. Even re-reading it, it stinks of encouraging voter apathy, which (as you seem to already be aware) is self-defeating.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Well, part of the reason is that Republicans keep getting choose their voters rather than the other way around… but even when they cheat, they tend to get away with it because their secondary tactic is so effective: spreading apathy to reduce turnout.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This isn't about apathy.

This is about how pointless it is to "get out the vote" on a not just left leaning, but overwhelmingly left leaning platform, on a post where no one is going to read further who isn't already politically minded.

All that's doing is making people feel like they accomplished something while doing fuck all.

If you actually care, go out and actually do something.

Stop acting holier than thou because you remind people to vote who were already going to. That's the real apathy problem in TX. But instead of maybe getting through to all those apathetic voters you reference, we're just sitting an echo chamber reminding each other to vote

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

I get your frustration and agree with your points, including the necessity of action. But action starts with words in places like this, which we all then take with us into our real, physical lives. There’s no need to discourage that.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

you have to actually tell the morons who vote for Republicans that they can eat shit and die, and do it to their faces, so they understand.. being a whiny bitch certainly doesn't help..

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

When 7 mil Texans sit out an election I think it's pretty clear we haven't actually tried voting these assholes out.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

And if those people voted, you think they would vote with you? They don't give a fuck and they're not going to. Stop using that as justification to do nothing

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Those downvotes you are recieving: they are the point of all of those Disney and Marvel movies. The good guys win, don't worry about it. If you just 'do the right thing' things will turn out ok. The system works. Justice exists and is inevitable.

It never occurs to them that people have been voting this entire time and the result of that is what we have. Voting isn't enough, its not enough, and its not clear it has any real impact whatsoever. If all voting gets you is delay and Joe Biden, what then? Its always the same tired "Vote Harder", "Vote Blue No Matter Who" line of crapola, a line of crapola those espousing don't really have a critical assessment of. They don't really have an answer for systematic change, or answers for when institutions like the DNC decide that your vote just shouldn't matter, as in New Hampshire, or the 2016 primary?

The fact is voting isn't working and it hasn't worked since the Supreme Court overturned the 2000 election of Bush V Gore. These strategies aren't working. If "voting harder" worked, we wouldn't be here right now. But these debutantes who think they know shit and are clicking the down button can't imagine another way. So the react, in the same reactionary way the right wing does.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

It doesn't occur to us that everyone has been voting this whole time because it's patently and demonstrably false. The very best America has done since 1900 was about 66% (2020 Presidential cycle). 49% in the 2018 midterm was the highest since 1914.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Those numbers are also based off the number of registered voters, the percentage of the entire eligible voter population is lower.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

I guess you should vote twice as hard then.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

If everyone voted for Hillary, abortion rights and IVF would still be safe. Despite common belief, The President isn't King. Bernie couldn't have done anything more than Hillary without a Democrat majority in Congress.

So yes voting does work. The problem was the majority didn't care enough about Roe V Wade until their rights were taken away by those who voted for Trump.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Hillary would have nominated better judges than trump. It makes a difference who you vote for.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Yeah, and you know why? Because Texans don't fucking show up to vote, especially Democrats and other left-leaning folks.

They are the living embodiment of, "We've tried doing nothing, and we're all out of ideas."

Voting won't fix all your problems, and it's nonsense to think it would, but it would certainly go a long way towards protecting women's right to choose.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I mean not voting just makes things worse, faster. A thing can still be worth doing even if it does not magically fix everything

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

The alternative to telling people to vote in comments when they are already politically motivated and were going to anyways isn't "not voting".

The point is the bare minimum internet forum cheerleading isn't fucking working.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Surreal and mind blowing clip. That’s unhinged and terrifying.
