is this the lord of the rings show?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Nah. That's Rings of Power or something

Pacing was like walking through a lake of mud. Still deserved a proper finale. Amazon is the new Netflix of cancelled series.

I am crushed. The series got better and better and S3 had one of the best (if not the best) episode in the genre ever put on TV. Fuck Amazon. I didn’t have a subscription to it before, otherwise I would have cancelled mine.

Good. Maybe the next turning of the wheel will give this series the love it deserves.

Does it have a proper ending at least? I swear, I need some kind of site to tell me in a spoiler-free way if a series concludes in a proper way or if I should stop watching after a certain season. It really ruins a series if it ends really poorly (GoT) or doesn't end but just.... stops (half of Netflix's originals)

Not even close to ending.

I'm amazed it made it to season 2.

Season 1 was hot garbage but 2 and 3 were pretty good. It seemed like it had found its footing.

S1 got wrecked by COVID s2 was good and s3 was fabulous.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

So I've heard.

It's a shame. Season 1 was bad, season 2 was watchable, but I really enjoyed season 3. It felt like they were finally getting into their stride.

All good things must come to an end, even The Wheel of Time.

As well as things of every other quality

The wheel of time turns and ages come and pass. There is no end to the turning of the wheel of time but this is an end.

Maybe had it not been bad fan fiction instead of just, you know, following the author's story, it would have worked out.

The author's story was also pretty terrible. I re-read it again last year, and man does it drag. You could most likely cut it in half and make a better series.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

I don't even disagree with you about the drag. However, books 1 and 2 are some of the best modern fantasy you can find. I knew the show was in trouble when it started making major changes to the story right out of the gates.

I just finished the series last week after starting it in January 2024. It's a pretty damn good epic. Yes there are slower parts, but on the whole it's very enjoyable and well paced. Not sure what you'd expect from a 14 book series. You're also full of it if you say the 12000 page series is terrible, yet you also reread it last year. That is nonsensical to put that much time and effort into something that's 'pretty terrible'.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I was a big fan as a child, but I haven't re-read them in about 15 years or so, since Sanderson finished it. Whenever that was.

It's not at all well paced. That's some fandom cope if I've ever heard it, good lord.

I can tell you 100% that I don't plan on reading it again. It's not worth it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

WoT is not "Well paced". It's egregiously slow and long winded. Robert Jordan should have been beaten with a chair for the bullshit he put his readers through.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's a 14 book epic, that pretty much comes with the territory. You get the details, world building, character's nuance, etc. it's not all moving the plot forward.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

It would have lost nothing if it were trimmed to 7 books. It's only 14 because no one smacked the author with a ruler.

You could potentially cut a lot, yeah. But this wasn't cutting, this was just plain rewriting.
