Lost my Minecraft account (lemmygrad.ml)

Basically that. I wanted to play Minecraft this summer since it’s been ages and introduce it to my kid. Didn’t realize I’d missed the deadline to migrate my Mojang account to a Microsoft one back in 2023.

I wish I could still access my old account. I really tried. But it’s lost. I could buy a new copy of the game. I could upload my old skin, the one I made myself in 2012, but it wouldn’t be the same. I won’t have my name, and I can’t claw it back from Microsoft. Worse still, the account I bought my partner when we lived apart, so we could raise pigs together, is gone as well.

Maybe I should buy some new copies. Start over, new usernames, new skins. So many things have changed since I last played. Old pastimes are subsumed by new responsibilities and new joys. Life is sedimentary like that. Some times we must accept that we can’t unearth the past.

You can catch a glimpse of my character if you look up my username. He’s what I used to be, in my favorite shirt and cardigan that no longer fit, and my favorite beanie I lost on a climbing trip. I’m glad he still has them. I like to think my and my partner’s old Minecraft avatars are still present somehow in the digital ether of Microsoft’s servers. Tending to their pigs and spaghetti minecart tracks and falling asleep together over Skype.

I actually tried to transfer my account on more than one occasion, but the auth flow was all fucked up and it never worked. Absolute robbing bastards

My account got all fucked up I think because I hooked my Microsoft account up to my Xbox account a decade ago and my brother took over the Xbox account and linked his Minecraft account to it. Then I migrated my Mojang account to my Microsoft account. On PC I can log in with my account but the launcher breaks when it tries to connect to Xbox Live. On mobile it logs me into my brother's account and I can't log into mine. I've been wanting to play too but can't justify buying it again.

A similar thing happened to me. I’m 99% sure I did migrate, as I have a saved password from 2022 for Microsoft in my password manager and an email confirming my account. Through chatting with Microsoft technical support, they said that since I migrated through the launcher on a Mac on Java addition that I have to contact Apple support. Which doesn’t make any sense. Apple has fuck all to do with this and basically told me that.

Microsoft is under BDS so don’t give them money for genocide.

Use your old names, old skins. Playing a fresh version to explore that’s different can scratch that itch while being exciting exploration again.

And no one can ever take it away again. It’ll work and be improved upon without ever getting a rugpull again.
