/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Yeah, no. If I wasn't there for the baby-making, I'm not dealing with any consequence that resulted from it.

Well don't forget one of the people there to help pick up the slack is a serial complainer who always has excuses why they aren't at work for their full shift, and when they are there they spend half their time whining to others how they're the hardest worker and things only get done when they get the task and how certain people chit-chat all day instead of work

Not I. I'm one of the sticks in their craw, as it were.

Friendly reminder, your employers failure to have adequate staffing is not your co workers fault.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

No, but they'll punish you for it. I did the work of 2 people adequately for two years and denied a raise each year. But when I threatened to quit, they hired a second person.

Oh, I don't blame or resent them one bit. Very happy for them, in fact. It all boils down to "the man" in this case.

Always remember the Boimler Effect and build in buffer time where ever you see fit.

Words of wisdom, Lloyd.

Companies like to staff as if nobody will ever be sick, have a baby, or go on vacation. Then, when those very normal things happen, they make this face while informing everyone that they'll have to do a lot more work.

My kid is constantly arriving late at school because their school bus company that services an area of 2 million inhabitants can't deal with the statistical certainty that a small fraction of their drivers will be absent at any given day. It's basic workforce administration, and with an operation as large as theirs it's actually easier and more economical to handle that than if they were a smaller company.

Balok really hit rock bottom, huh?

Nah, he's just hitting his stride.

I feel ya.

Was on vacation last week. Did people read my OoO message and forward their requests to anyone else on my team? Lol, of course not. So I spent all yesterday and today taking care of things that should have been handled last week, plus catching up on a week of everything, plus two of my team took days off this week so I'm picking up their slack.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

I used to work in a country with workers rights, and vacation time could be taken as one go of 30 days, or two of 15/15 or 10/20. It's rather inflexible, but does work great in setting expectations for all involved. And your employer can't force you to only take small vacations.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It should still take the same amount of time when you get back. If they don’t like the response time, that’s on them.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 days ago

This is my attitude. I'm not going to slack off when work is light, and I'm not going to work overtime because someone else can't do their job. I'm also lying about not slacking off. Work sucks.
