Love Dax, always felt a connection with the character. I’ve also been both, at least in the way it appeared.

Still feels pretty cis-heteronormative and binary to me :(

I know what you mean. The implication in Jadzia's statement is that she's typically adhering to straight relationships depending on her gender identity at the time. That being said, if you watch the show and are willing to be a little generous, you can make the claim that she's pansexual. The actress explicitly has said she wanted to portray her character as pansexual. Also, the trill retain the memories and wisdom of previous partners. It's hard to imagine that Jadzia wouldn't feel attraction to her previous partners. In fact, if you watch DS9 S04E05 - Rejoined you'll see Jadzia kiss her former wife and claim she still feels love for her. In addition, that kiss was one of the first televised lesbian kisses!

Heteronormative, yes. Cis less so, I'd say.

Anyway, considering the time it first aired, it's almost revolutionary.

But that's a running theme with the old Trek shows. I'm currently on a rewatch and a lot of episodes are still very relevant today. Yet sometimes there are moments where I think ”Yeah, it's fine, could have gone a step further though“ but then remember that stuff's partially as old or even older than I am, and put into context of it's time, it's pretty neat again.

[Lighthearted] Aren't most trans people non hierarchical unmarried polyamorists?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I thought we were an autonomous collective?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[Genuine] What would that mean?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think it’s an umbrella term for some types of self-governance like anarcho-syndicalism, but I was teasing in reference to a scene from Monty Puthon and the Holy Grail: https://tube.mint.lgbt/watch?v=ACvXR0sQDkM

My relationship is poly non-hierarchical and unmarried though, so while I can’t speak for everyone, that does sound accurate to me :)

[Amused/Curious] Are you from Dekuuna?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No. We don't even know what that is.

Oh, no. We just find the [] tone tags better than the slash ones like /srs etc. Hopefully nobody has to look up a guide to what they mean with the [] ones, nor has to guess at what they mean. Plus they are presumably more easily translatable.

Tone tags are necessary in textual mediums a lot of the time but we can all make them easier without having to use a guide, list etc.

do you think dax has been "all" combinations? like can we make a truth table with dax relationships?

I looked it up on memory alpha, but unfortunately could only find two Daxs (? Daxes? Dax'?) of whom we know their respective spouses, Audrid (female host, had a husband) and Torias (male host, had a wife).

I checked memory beta(which includes non-canon but licensed work like some comics, Star-Trek Online and similar) and here's a list of hosts with known information about spouse or child(ren):

  • Lela, 1st host, 21st century: Wife with husband, two children.

  • Tobin, 22nd century: Male trill with one child, no spouse listed.

  • Audrid, 23rd century: Wife with symbiont husband, two children.

  • Torias, 23rd century: Husband with symbiont wife

Spoiler: Are you sure you only found those last two?

  • Jadzia, 24th century: Wife with husband

The info box lists six marriages and nine children. So I'm guessing not everything is accurate or not all sub-pages updated.

  • Jadzia, 24th century: Wife with husband

I just misremembered. Thought she died right before their wedding.

Two members of the TV Show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine are having a conversation, Jadzia Dax and Chief O'Brien.

Jadzia Dax asks "Wife problems, Chief?"

"How did you know?" Chief O'Brien replies.

Jadzia goes on to say, "Well, I've been a husband and I've been a wife, and I know that look from both sides."
