Well, you ain't been doin' nothin' if you ain't been called a Red~♪

[–] Killercat103@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

If you've marchеd or agitated, you're bound to hear it said.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I hate all traffic equally. Teleporters can't be invented fast enough.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

that's called public transport, particularly high speed rail

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 19 points 3 weeks ago

I agree. We need roads dedicated for cyclists. I hate bike lanes. They're super unsafe.

Make every other road cyclist-only. Its easy.

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 8 points 3 weeks ago

Fix suburban and semi-rural neighborhoods - and by that I mean make them walkable and bikeable with public transportation available, and make sure 95% of what you need is in every neighborhood.

THEN you can squeeze out the old systems. Otherwise you have under-resourced people with no access to anything they need stuck in their homes waiting for their much accelerated deaths.

That's so far from an American reality, it feels like a looming poor suburban genocide. Bike lanes are awesome. But there are FAR more places where they don't exist than where they do.

Law enforcement is "communist" then, lets go abolish the police 😏

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I mean.....

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Why repeat this garbage and give it more airtime than it deserves?

[–] comfy@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

Because it's obviously ridiculous and we enjoy laughing at it.

And also, it illustrates the class nature of owning-class car advocacy. News "journalists" don't just go and make bizarre claims that bike lanes are communist. This is a political decision, to use red scare rhetoric to propagandize on behalf of the motor industry. Historically speaking, the owning class fearmongering, anti-liberalism and anti-communism are core aspects of the historical fascist ideologies. This should not be brushed away as commercial idiot grifting, this is their ideological propaganda coming out.

[–] Killercat103@slrpnk.net 10 points 3 weeks ago

As a socialist I wouldnt mind bike lanes to be a communist value lol.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Shouldn't have watched that. Definitely lost brain cells.

[–] Sirdubdee@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How dare cyclists own the means of propulsion. Capitalism demands people buy expensive modes of transportation that requires payments to car companies, oil companies, insurance companies, and extra taxes. Get out of here with your free pedaling and infinite parking spaces!

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

North American food production involves all of those, so capitalism still wins!

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Newsmax just bringing matinee movie theater ushers on to give random political opinions now

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 51 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

His only argument against bike lanes is "there unamerican" XD Nothing about reducing traffic, helping the environment, being healthy, saving money, just unamerican.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

"Unamerican" means "objectionable to those who pay me."

[–] blandfordforever@lemm.ee 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

American here. I can confirm that >99% of the dumbasses here will absolutely trade all of those things for a car.

[–] The_Caretaker@urbanists.social 6 points 3 weeks ago

@blandfordforever @hOrni
Bikes aren't unAmerican. Car manufacturers are a criminal cartel. Look what America looked like before car and oil companies destroyed our light rail infrastructure so they could sell more cars. #FuckCars https://youtu.be/lx6km37pC3U

[–] executivechimp@discuss.tchncs.de 38 points 3 weeks ago

TBF unamerican does sum up the things you've listed pretty well

[–] piconaut@sh.itjust.works 22 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly, all those things are unamerican.

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 11 points 3 weeks ago

Why do these people suck so hard?

As an aside I’m disappointed a connector from the bike path near me to a major state bike trail didn’t go through in the last two years. I think an alder held it up for some petty reason and then the funding deadline ran out. It’ll be at least 4 more years I bet until it can be done again arghh

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 30 points 3 weeks ago

Call a fascist a fascist: you're ruining the meaning of the word! It doesn't even apply!

Call bike lanes communist: yes yes very smart and true!

[–] TheMightyCat@lemm.ee 78 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Can confirm, i live in the Netherlands and the bike lanes here are painted red because they are communist.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Here in America the bike lanes are painted red because thats the blood of bicyclists who are hit staying in their bike lane. As our drivers are swerving lanes as they watch tiktok on their phone while driving.

"BUMPBUMP!! Hey! Whoa! That's a weird place for a speed bump....."

[–] LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee 6 points 3 weeks ago

Fun fact. Not actually just paint. They use different colored alphant altogether. It's why it's so vibrant and never fades.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

In the US we would only paint them red to hide the bloodstains after a cybertruck runs over them.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Can... a cybertruck actually run over anything?

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The downward sloped hood should push people underneath. The wheels and weight are enough to grind someone and their bike underneath like a meat crayon with some chunky bits.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

given it's issues with anything other than flat, level, dry terrain, I would suspect it would lose traction, capsize, shut down, catch fire, or any combination of those the moment the tires break skin and liquid becomes involved.

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 14 points 3 weeks ago
[–] AmazingAwesomator@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

as an american, i think we could use a little communism.

[immediately gets disappeared to cecot]

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 weeks ago

SCHLAPP: Yeah, well, and get rid of the bus lanes, too.

Yaay one more lane! No more traffic

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

Meanwhile, this motherfucker would let Putin shit in his mouth.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 133 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

nothing more capitalist than being stuck on traffic because car is the only option

[–] br3d@lemmy.world 83 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nothing more capitalist than expecting vast amounts of free infrastructure from the government

Just wanted to tell you, I chuckled. Thanks.

I'm also confused. Is the guy you replied to piling on jokingly -- or just ignorant. We may never know.
