This is what my main account on Lemmy.World looks like right now for the past hour. I don't know why.

Is this a me problem, or will this fix itself shortly? Can anybody else use Lemmy.World from their cell phone browser?

we had an issue related to incorrectly caching 404 responses earlier but that was a few hours before your post. it should already have been resolved when you posted this.

Here's the weird thing. It doesn't matter if I'm logged out or logged in. It's not all of lemmy. It seems to be JUST lemmy.world.

I don't have a lemm.ee account, but that one works fine. Whereas lemmy.world, even logged out is still a mess.

Now for the other weird bit. If I enable secret mode, the website works fine.

I'm thinking of downloading a new browser and seeing if that changes things.

most likely the bad 404 response was also cached in your web browser. try clearing your cache or doing a reload with ctrl+f5 or cmd+shift+r.

Holy shit! Clearing just the cache worked! Now it's back to normal!!!

That kind of errors are always local. The page isn't rendered correctly by your browser.

There are many non-local scenarios that can cause CSS to not load. The host providing the CSS could be down, for example. The CSS could be malformed or broken in some way, for another.

It's likely a local problem, but it is not always a local problem.

Damn. So it's a me problem.

sigh

I’ve seen something similar happen when a site doesn’t load all the way. Refreshing fixes that unless something has gone horribly wrong.

lemmy.world loaded normally on my cellphone. Is it still buggy there? It kinda looks like the CSS is not loading, maybe your internet connection with lemmy.world is currently slow? I think this will adjust itself.

looks fine on me
