It's not surprising to me really given that gamers have thrown fits over past games using types instead of 'female' or 'male' but I guess I just can't get over how fucking stupid it is to care so much that you download a mod that reverts the text in a character creation menu. The slightest change in language in order to be more welcoming to other players is treated as the downfall of society by these people.

(For context, this is on nexusmods)

Love that for them. Its great that we're getting accuaed of newspeak for checks notes caring about how our words affect other people, while these dorks are out there literally controlling language and erasing things they dont like

tangential: the "body type" stuff is annoying because stuff like pronouns and voice options just end up getting tied to the choice anyway in a lot of games. i get that it's like a liberal baby step in the right direction but the form (at least in mainstream or AAA) is still doing a lot to uphold Gender and has a long way to go.

all games should embrace sims 4 thought

Saints Row 2 stays winning. Choose any of six voices. Gender slide, not binary. Pronouns just the Boss. Can wear all clothes not locked behind gender .

and you're canonically transfem, but that's never remarked on beyond some Fresh Prince of Bel-Air "aunt viv did you do something with your hair"? lampshading

Maybe it's just the games I'm playing but in my experience most of the time when games have "body type" instead of gender they also have separate pronoun and voice options.

Elden Ring didn’t, that’s my only experience with it.

i don't really play AAA games, but a couple i can think of are Cyberpunk (character gender + pronouns tied to voice), and Elden Ring (pronouns tied to body type). Oblivion Remastered obviously does it too. Cyberpunk is the especially irritating example for various reasons. Baldur's Gate 3 set a new standard which i'm hoping becomes more the norm. like i said i don't play many games like this but i personally haven't seen one with body types that isn't also essentialising in some way. would like to hear about them!

Whatever you do, don't look at the steam forums for this game. The amount of possible slop is unreal, like with starfield

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

20k freaks wasted their time down loading this, 99% of people that bought the game are just happy and having fun, oblivious to this nonsense

Idk if I’m crazy but when I was 5 years old I found out Blue was a girl instead of a boy and when I was 8 I found out the same about Metroid.

None of this effected me in any way and I just want to know why gamers are so emotionally stunted by content.

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

Metroid is a girl???

[–] Thallo@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Finding out sheik was Zelda was basically the first step in turning me trans

Because they don't leave the house

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Lol, that makes more sense. I guess I had gaming in the brain from Metroid.

the devs didn't even do anything because pronouns are still tied to it. this was literally a performative virtue signal and the chuds are performatively making a mountain out of something you interact with for five seconds ahead of dozens of hours of gameplay where you spend 90% of the time not seeing your character and most of the dialogue about you is second-person.

spoileralso the porn mods are better in skyrim and will continue to be better in skyblivion.

How am I supposed to make my bosmer femboy?

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Uh, you allow women characters? OK Mr. Sir Wokesalot. I'm gonna create a mod to get rid of the option to play a female character.

The least gay thing is checks notes when it's all muscular men?
