Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday punishing the law firm that helped Dominion Voting Systems obtain a $787.5m settlement from Fox for lies about the 2020 election.

The order against the firm, Susman Godfrey, marks the latest effort by the president to punish attorneys and firms who have opposed his interests.

The order seeks to harm the firm by limiting its attorneys from accessing government buildings, revoking security clearances and essentially making it impossible for it to represent anyone who has business before the federal government.

Trump’s rationale for targeting the firm was not immediately clear.

Surrrrre... He only said out loud he would pursue retribution against people who opposed him and his allies as a part of his campaign, but very mysterious to be sure

Trump is overplaying his hand, IMO. Going after 2 law firms for things specifically related to him was probably pretty effective, but going after 6+ firms just encourages them to band together. Also, while some firms could have avoided pursuing Trump, it’s not practical to avoid any organization that Trump might like.

TL;DR: If I’m a law firm, at this point I’m thinking that it’s only a matter of time until Trump goes after me, so there’s no point in trying to avoid it.

Unfortunately, with all the capitulations that happened, I find it more likely that other firms will preemptively try to get in his good graces or at least keep a low profile if they haven’t already represented an enemy of Trump.

If it isn't already obvious, this is a shitbag using the highest office in the land for personal vendettas. Can't wait for the Brawndo billboards on the White House lawn.

Can't wait for the Brawndo billboards on the White House lawn.

Did you forget about the Tesla infomercial they filmed there?

Forgot about that. Or the Resolute Desk to advertise beans. Even Nick Cage treated the desk with more respect in National Treasure.

Oh god! The beans. I forgot all about that. His whole family is a disaster.

Why not just.....go after Dominion Voting Systems?

I know both actions are wrong. But why not just issue an executive order and claw back $2 billion from Dominion?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

Because he has other things he wants from an electronic voting system company.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

I’m sure that’ll come closer to midterms.

Can't let law firms go after the state propaganda channel.

No, ‘Republican President signs order targeting law firm behind $787.5m Fox defamation suit’ would much better inform.
