Can someone explain the no AI rule? I keep tripping over that one. @[email protected]

Be sure to follow the rule before you head out.
Rule: You must post before you leave.
fuck ai that's why
I like the cut of your jib. Mod abuse Mondays need to make a return
ill consider it
No AI generated content, so no Midjourney, ChatGPT, etc.
There are several reasons for this:
- It's low effort content that can drown out things people have put actual effort in (but that's not really a problem here since 99% is low effort shitposts anyway)
- Its training material is gathered without permission of the authors.
- It's wasteful in terms of energy and thus emissions
Thanks. I couldn't wrap my head around it.
I don't really agree, with the viewpoint, but I'll continue to try and be mindful of the stuff I post.
Could you elaborate how you disagree with 2 & 3?
not OP but someone did a pretty good writeup on 3) a year ago
tw reddit link (ew) https://old.reddit.com/r/aiwars/comments/11v5ovu/energy_footprint_of_ai_image_as_against_a_piece/jcsj7uy/
Oh man that post is a hot mess. Comparing energy used by a human to AI? Guess we don't need all those artists, better round em up and eliminate them because of some reddit math.
that’s the argument OOP was making. I didn’t make it, I never said we should remove human artists. I think human creativity/creation will and should become even more valued in the coming years. You’re putting words in my mouth, that’s not very nice.
You called the write up pretty good, idk man I was just responding to the information provided. Not really putting words in anyone's mouth but my own.
I never said we dONT nEED aLL tHeSE aRTiSTS, I gave you a pretty convincing refutal to the argument that AI uses more energy than human artists. Not anything else.
what's 196
ueagh
oh thank god. finally, safe community. based af.
appreciate the kind words
Hey @[email protected] - thanks for these!
Make sense to add a link to this post to the sidebar?

Do I have to post an image? Is the OP's image an example of what to do or what not to do?
real question. I'm assuming from the name that you can say trans rights are important. killing Nazis here is cool right? like opening up the physical rack, pulling out the backup drive, and bludgeoning them with it inside the housing? or would that be a violation of tos with your hosting company? is it only okay to suggest shooting them? do I have to be clear its only okay to do outside the data center where youre hosted?
What the fuck?
Will I get banned if I leave without posting?
nah
IRL GORE IS NOT PERMITTED UNDER ANY CONDITION.
Finally an internet community of people that don't think it's funny if people die in horrible ways.
-posts that are so off topic that they don't fit on 196 at all

I've updated the rules to add moldy Mondays
I've updated the rules to ban AI generated content
I’m curious to know more context abt the statement revolving around hexbear & lemmygrad? I’m very new to the fediverse so i don’t know much about these instances
Tankie pro-mao/stalin cesspools that ferment people in a powerful echo chamber. Basically hyper-reactionist toxic "leftists" looking for any excuse to stir up trouble
What is corpoposting? I am dumb baby
posting memes/general posts that are pro-corp. I.E. mcdonalds sprite hits different, or wendys twitter, or whatever
I'm not sure but my guess is it's posts that support corporations, like advertising or memes that could be ads if that makes sense
Not part of the community here just see you guys in All a lot, what is the reasoning behind having the word rule in all your posts? Just curious.
Rule: you must post before you leave
Maybe I'm stupid but I still don't understand.
You’re supposed to post before you leave (however you interpret that). I think they’re saying “Rule” in their posts to show they’re posting to follow that rule. That’s my interpretation anyway- only been here like a week and trying to figure out Lemmy
I've got a slight suggested edit
Basically the first item to get banned adding Hexbear to the list with Lemmygrad
I've been seeing a huge influx of tankie takes from hexbear accounts all over (and here) since they federated
My team is on it, and I will personally pitch in in dealing with it once auditions are over for the thing I'm working on
Thank you and I'm happy to hear it
