Dads for a minute for children who need a dad figure

This place came up in conversation over the weekend. I'd made a similar thing back when kbin.social existed. It didn't take off at all then, and went down with the ship.

That was well over a year ago now, and the landscape has changed (in oh so many ways). Seems like a good time to jumpstart something like this again, and so ... here I am.

Thanks so much for doing this! I found the reddit one really helpful for practical stuff like DIY questions and also emotional support.

Hi Dad. I'm also Dad.

Edit: And thanks for kicking things off again here. I think it's a valuable resource for younger (or even not so much younger) folks who need a dad in their life.

Not just that but it gives me hope when I find wholesome communities online

I do not understand that question.

I think the commenter means "what is this place?". It was my first thought too. Like, what is it for? I am a dad, I have 2 kids - is it for me? Or is it for someone or something else?

Ahh, I see. My fault for thinking it was self-explanatory. From the sidebar:

I believe the "start" of this concept was the "Mom for a minute" at reddit. A person (of any age) may feel like they need a parent to talk to, but for whatever reason, their own parents are not a suitable choice. If you're one of those people, and you feel like talking to "a Dad," this would be a good place to find at least one.

What happened to kbin? I started with them, but I couldn't use the Voyager app.

The lone admin and developer of kbin there had some personal concerns. He meant well, but I think the whole thing was a bit more than he ever intended to take on, especially after the reddit API influx of users.

kbin got forked to mbin, which is still being developed. fedia.io runs on it, others too, but I couldn't say which. As far as "apps" go, I have no problem just using the mobile site for it. mbin/kbin have some limited support for microblogging ("Mastodon" - but don't get me started on terminology), where lemmy does not.
