The CEO was a fucking hack. Good riddance.

He straight up said 'movie pirates are worse than drunk drivers' at one point.

I don't know about any of you, but I'm pretty sure media pirates haven't killed people with their negligence.

If you recall the campaign, if you pirate movies then the money left over after the production executives buy their yachts isn't enough to pay the people that actually made the film. Those hard working people, not paid for their part in a successful film, go to the bar and drink. Having lost all sense of tolerance, they end up driving home drunk. You see where this is going... Once home they post online about not getting paid. Had pirates not stolen the movies, executives wouldn't have to suffer the pain of having to hear about the poors that they enslave being upset about their wages. Won't anyone think of the executives?!

Good! Matrix 4 was the worst POS I've seen since Epic Movie

I saw Bugs as a character and was excited. Then Bugs decided to watch the original Matrix movie inside this other Matrix movie. I'm like ... what the hell am I watching?

It was soooo bad.

i like the part where they’re explaining why they did it by showing corporate forcing a sequel to a video game whether the original writers are in on it or not…

Terrible movie but an amazing "fuck you" to the company. Kind of amazing to watch.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

yep… it’s only good if you look at it through the “fuck you” lens….
also they get to tell off the “red pill” people by pointing out that originally the matrix was a metaphor for being trans…

I had really low expectations and therefore was pleasantly surprised.

Village RoadShow and WB produced and co-owned dozens of films over the years but their relationship soured in early 2022 after the release of the latest Matrix film - The Matrix Resurrections - on the streaming platform HBO Max.

I didn't even know this had been released, so I guess they failed hard.

it was complete and utter garbage

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The reviews on it - both critics and public - seem yo say it was like a B-.

I haven't seen it and no one I've asked has seen it, and I don't plan to ever see it. Bit it doesn't sound like it was quite that bad.

I almost felt insulted after watching it. I'm somsone who enjoyed all 3 ones before it. I'm not sure if rumor that it sucked on purpose to prevent WB from touching the franchise is true, but I was so disappointment that it feels more likely than that was really the best they could do.

[–] InfiniteHench@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don’t have a definitive source, but I’ve heard that was intentional. WB said they were gonna do it with or without the Wachowskis. So they agreed to do it and torpedoed it so WB would stop trying to mess with the franchise.

[–] ngdev@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

heard the same, also heard a rumor they're gonna make more without them now lol

[–] ramble81@lemm.ee 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Huh, so I guess “Hollywood accounting “ doesn’t work.

Bummer to see them go, but the movie industry is notorious for screwing over production studios. They stopped being useful or creative teams wanted better pay; cut off life support and find a new crew. This outcome was planned in a meeting ages ago.
