I compared one of these to the nitecore MH25Pro. Both 21700 lights with 40mm heads, the acebeam is lightly less lumens, but its throwing distance is just a little more

That seems to be what the advertised specs say, but what I'm seeing in reviews is that the MH25 Pro comes up well short of its advertised output at power-on and throttles before the 30 seconds used for output measurement in the FL1 standard. It has a little more throw than the Acebeam, but only for about 25 seconds.

I did review the MH12 Pro and had similar results; it throttles very early, gets hot fast, and doesn't perform as advertised. That one didn't have close competitors for lots of throw in that diameter when it came out, but the MH25 Pro has several, and does not stand out among them.

the MH12 pro and MH25 pro have the same emitters, same modes, same controls, same battery

the MH12 pro heats up VERY fast because of its size. the 1000...and something... lumen setting on the MH25 pro doesn't get very hot because it has significantly more surface area to dissipate the heat it still gets a little warm though

if you can only have one, go for the MH25 pro just for the heat dissipation

If you can only have one, I think the L16 is a better choice than either of those Nitecores.

yes, but as far as the tiers go

1, L16v2 2.5 MH25 Pro 42. MH12 Pro

And I own two of each

I don't think a direct comparison is really appropriate. The MH12 Pro has a straight body and fits reasonably comfortably in a pants pocket. The other two have considerably larger heads and most people won't carry them that way.
